What's the point of having a Leica if you don't want to use Leica lenses? Aren't the lenses the main point of getting a Leica in the first place?![]()
I put my Leica lenses on my Nikons, and my Nikon mount lenses on my Leicas.
Isn't that how you're meant to do it?

In screw mount, there are some serious competitors to Leitz glass.

Indeed. Have a look at the thread I just posted, comparing 50/1.4 and 50/1.2: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=155193
Also, you might be interested in my 50mm film projects, 2 years ago: https://ferider.smugmug.com/Portfolio/One-Year-with-50mm-Lenses-on-F. Several LTM lenses were used that you might be interested in (Elmar 50/2.8, Nikkors, etc), and the Nokton and Summicron also exist as LTM variants.
Roland.
Regarding the Elmar 2.8. I had read that one might as well stick to the 3.5 considering the 2.8's performance wide open. http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=612675&postcount=14
My apologies to the OP for butting in, but perhaps he would also find the answer to this question useful.

The f/2.8 has an aperture ring for much easier handling. A very few late f/3.5 Elmars were housed in the same barrel, but most use the awful thumbnail-driven aperture mechanism.

I skimmed this thread quickly. I saw no mention of the Nikkor S.C 50/1.4 lens. Too bad.My first ever LTM lens was the CANON 50/1.8. A very nice 50mm lens indeed. Alas, in a fit of ignorance, I sold the lens. I came to my senses and bought the Nikkor 50/1.4. I won't make the same mistake twice.
