Lose the tripod ...

It really takes a 96-second video to show people how to make a string-pod?!? This idea has been around forever, and isn't exactly complicated:

1) Stick a 1/4x20 bolt in your camera's tripod socket.
2) Tie a string to it.
3) Cut off the string at the appropriate length and tie the free end to something such as a big washer.
4) To use, step on washer and pull up.

Duh. Now you don't need to waste your time watching the video.

I too have known this trick for about 30 years, but there are people here who ar'nt as old as you and I...:)

I guess that makes me old too. I used an eye bolt instead.

String Pod?

I've been taking photos for 40-some years and reading photo magazines for 30-some years and I never heard this term before! :) I've never seen this idea before today.

I've known about these for years too, and in the dim recesses of memory I seem to recall a commercial one that was for sale -- I think it was made from a lightweight braided chain or something similar.

I like it when someone goes to the trouble of making a video like this. It's a nice gesture to show people how to make simple things they may not have heard of.

I remember those. That was the old Leica FOOTY. Of course, the 'string' was braided Lippizaner tail hair and the hardware was vanadium steel. Cost around $120 in the 1950s.

You know that this will have exactly the opposite effect that you suggested, this video will become more popular :D
