I think it looks very cool the way it is. Scott from the NY Meet-Up had all the paint for both the M and 9 wear off, and it became a stealth camera. Eventually Scott had the camera overhauled by Leica and made into a M9P. BTW Scott's M9 was a very-very early one.
I used a red wax art crayon to replace my missing black paint on a Wetzlar M6.
Anyways your camera looks cool and presents itself as being creative. I'd keep it as it is.

I agree with wiping out the 9 and filling both in in red.

LOL, and that almost as long a track of the "white" double album as this thread is!

This reminds me of a rather long track from a Beatles album.

That's why I always carry a roll of black tape in my bag.

sounds like a retaliation to Leica that lost the "10"

There are people who actually remove the white paint from there. Just go the whole nine and erase the nine.

If you can find a clean clear photo in the manual, or wherever of the "M9" logo style, you could get a sign company to make either a set of white vinyl adhesive letters, or alternately a custom stencil that you could apply to the body so you can re-paint the missing letter.

I'd go all black. I will be removing the red dot on my M-E and replacing with a black dot. Go black!

I had a 19 for a while.
When the camera went in to Leica for a flash sync problem they repainted the M and gave me the new, way nicer vulcanite.

check with DAG for the black dot, he carries what I belive is a aftermarket black dot, as I recall Leica is very tight with the black dots only supplying them to replace a damaged original which only came on a black paint LHSA model. They don't want you defacing one of there cameras by changing the red dot on a camera that was designed that way. I am not sure if they would sell any more cameras but they should provide the option as many people are not so fond of the red dot and if you are spending that kind of money you should be able to get what you want.

Oh and BTW from a strictly analog point of view I think it looks cool with just the 9

At this point I have decided to leave it as is for 2 reasons:
1. Too lazy
2. Sadly I had hoped someone would prove to me that making a change would make me a better photographer, that not being the case, why bother?

Shoot, I was about to suggest painting only the diagonals of the M.
Then you have a V9 to perplex everyone.
