Hi Tom,
I have posted this thread here on your own forum because I was afraid that my posting on the Leica M thread (with the same title) might get lost without an answer.

My personal favorite is the 50f2.5 Hektor from 1930's. It was a small production as it was replace with the Summar 50f2. The Hektor @ f2.5 was in a sense the "fast" lens for the Leica 1. It is a 6 element design, uncoated and surprisingly sharp when stopped down a bit - quite soft wide-open.I just put up some shots done with one on our Flickr. Just tag "Leica Hektor 50mm f2.5". This is part of my regular annual "shoot a roll with every camera and lens" at the beginning of the year!

Hi Tom,
You've opened my eyes with your Leica Hektor 50mm f2.5 Flickr shots.
This lens has always been rated as a "dog"of a lens and as far as Dr.Max Berek concerned it was named after one of his dogs, but it certainly doesn't deserve it's bad reputation going by the excellent shots on your Flickr.
How do you find it handles colour?
Do you think the Hektor would benefit from being coated?
Is yours an early or late sample of this lens?

Many thanks for sharing your photo's because very few examples taken using this lens are available to view on the www.
This lens should certainly not be called a "dog".
Regards,
William

Back in the 60's I had an uncoated 50/2.5 Hektor. Sometimes I wished that I'd kept it but I only had so much money back in my younger days. It was uncoated, not the crispest lens in the world, but it only set me back $20 including caps and hood. It looked cool on my grey Leica II-CK ($36.50) with a Geiss Kontak flash synchronizer ($3 with red bakelite case and instruction sheet).

An uncoated 50mm f2 Summar will give you low contrast also.
