I have been thinking about this for a while: is it possible to use M lenses on SLRs? If it is, then which SLR is best suited for such and what kind of adaptors will I need for such a setup? Has anyone done this successfully? What are the possible limitations?

I don't have an SLR, but I have many M lenses that I use wih my R-D1. Upgrading to M8 is out of question. If I get an SLR (which I am contemplating), I want to be able to use my M lenes without investing in any more lenses.

All SLRs have a much bigger register (the distance between the film/sensor plane and the lens mount) to allow for the mirror box. It is therefore not possible to use any RF lens on an SLR without a correcting lens between, which may detract from the image quality. To my knowledge, no such adaptor exists.

If any of your lenses are Visoflex ready, then an adapter from eBay will allow the head to be attached on bodies with Canon EOS or Nikon F mount. Depending on the head, you also need a short-barrel focusser (OUAGO, OTZFO, etc).

Hmmm... I have a 90/4 where the lens head detaches. I had used it with a Viso system earlier. Can you name the adaptor that will take the OUAGO or OTXFO onto Canon or Nikon? This may be worth a try but severly limiting.

Thanks.

Check out Fotodiox.com. They may have what you are looking for. They have adapters for visoflex lenses to both Canon EOS and Nikon F. I have never used one of them since I mount my old Visoflex lenses on my Pentax K10D which required several adapters to make it work.
