Hi all,

having read a lot about the unobtrusiveness and versatility of the new "prosumer" p+s cameras (GRD etc...) I finally couldn`t resist! After eight or so years of using my beloved M6 and a few lenses almost exclusively for private stuff (mostly b/w) I finally ordered a Panasonic LX3!
I used it infrequently for a week now and even though I'm familiar with digital SLRs (more or less only use them when I have to):
I am addlepated. bemazed. deranged! How do I use this thing?! the sheer abundance of options, settings and possibilities of customisation just drive me crazy! I get nervous five minutes before even taking some quick snaps about what mode to use and why! What's there to actually "help" me taking good photographs all of a sudden just gets in my way!!
Please tell me: Will I get used to this camera after 67 months of using it? Will it become THE street schooting machine for me? Quick, quiet and fast (I just added a Helios viewfinder 35/85/135 for some "real" camera feeling)?
Does anybody have thoughts to share? I just love the M and the "simpleness" and directness of photography with it and even though its amazing what the Panasonic can do on paper, I'm not sure if it's the right thing for me...

Like you, I love my Leica Ms, and am very ambivalent about Digitals, particularly the DSLRs. As a compromise, I bought the Panasonic LX3, and took it to india for 2 weeks. I did get the 'hang' of it and found that I shot over 550 pictures with it , and less than a roll with the M6/BessaR3A ! It is just so much more convenient, and the quality is very good. Of course, its not quite the same as Leica M body & Glass, shot carefully when you have the time.
Yes, I predict you will get used to it, and use the Ms less when you just want many and quick shots, without the hassles of a manual camera.
But I am pleased with my LX3.
Here is a shot of Manhattan around sunset-

Helenhill,
You know, I keep trying to, but have not succeeded so far. What IS this closely guarded secret of posting in-line images that is known only to a privileged few, and passed down orally from one generation to the next ?
HELP !!:bang:
Subhash

I have the previous model, and I am very happy with the results.
The only thing it bothers me is the lack of optical viewfinder.
The new model solved it!
