M prices rising!

You blokes should come to Japan. Christ, they even have regular monthly magazines dedicated to film cameras. Anyway, I'm going to get myself a second M4-P before they get too expensive. That's my plan at least!

I too have been thinking of an M4-P as a 2nd body.......
I have to many thinks on my short list

I sold an M4-P in the original box for $750.00 . I probably should have checked but I don't think it was leaving too much on the table and the buyer still has it so he wasn't in it to make a buck by flipping it. I'd rather sell to people who shoot.

Even though the supply of M film bodies may be reducing for whatever reasons if you're a photographer and not a hoarder/collector it shouldn't matter.

There are still brand new 35mm RF bodies available from Zeiss and Cosina ... the Ikon in particular can do anything any Leica M film body can do and more. The same applies to M mount lenses ... there are plenty to choose from from the same manufacturers!

Cool...sounds good to me! Now find me a 80 Lux R...:)...those things are scarce and when you find 'em you gotta have the CC in hand and ready to order!

At the recent New York Meet-Up, Carl had a R9 with a digital back and the 80 Lux. A very cool rig. His lens had no SN.

It makes me feel old. When I got into Leica M photography, the 50mm Summicron retailed, new, for about $950, and the newly released 35mm Summicron ASPH was under $1500. I should've stocked up.

Yes agreed, many fine choices, but the M7 can do a few things the ZM can't. It lacks the wiggly rangefinder patch of the Zeiss -- everything just snaps into focus -- and my Lord I thought the two mechanical speeds were a gimmick until I really needed them. Having said all that. it's not worth the current MSRP. I only have one because I got a demo for only a few hundred more then a new ZM.

Which brings me to my next point ...

It doesn't explain the sudden increase in Leica M pricing, but Leica has upped their prices by almost 100% in the last 7-8 years. Every time the price on new stuff goes up, it tends to drag along used prices too.

don't ship overseas weak dollar

don't ship overseas weak dollar

the $$$ is weak if you sell on the forums or sh?tbay don't ship overseas.
The weak dollar is allowing overseas bidders to drive up usa prices, + there is now overseas dealers listing on sh?tbay with crazy prices sometimes more than new just my 2 cents

Agreed, and I understand this shadow pricing discussed in this forum applies to Leica M used, but it seems to me that it also applies to other lenses usable on Leica M bodies -- both M mount and screw mount. Other views?

If I get another M-mount body I don't think I'd own any Leica lenses. Back when you and I bought, they were good values, but today the performance-to-dollar ratio is all out of whack from a user's perspective.
