M10 Specs Up

I have assembled a nice collection of Leica lenses, at no small expense, and while I am happy to go on using them on Leica film bodies, I was really hoping for an affordable FF digital body from Leica. I had an M8 and just never took to it, and I had an M9 that simply cost too much for me to feel comfortable with. I hoped that the M-E would be a nice compromise, but that price is just silly. Damn shame.

Video would be focused just like live view stills. I have no interest in video (right now, anyway), but it appears that they've implemented it in a pretty low-impact way; there if you need it, can be easily ignored if you don't.

How do you focus in video mode? Who wants to use video mode with a Rangefinder? If someone can spend $8K on a camera plus the lenses... I am assuming they should be able to afford a video camera.

Leica put up a (not so informative) video up on their mrleicacamera YouTube account.
Vimeo probably too.

Edit: The John Dooley video (same account on YT) is better. :)

They may be LED illuminated, but it appears they will be bigger for those old guys who like the M4-era framelines (sized for 2m according to the spec sheet).

Wheres the illumination window !?
LED illumination. Pffffffffff...
Im liking the M-E more...

who the heck is CMOSIS (from Belgium)? How come they have never been in spotlight before? Interesting developments..

I actually thought that maybe, just maybe, it may have been Sony or Panasonic but I've never heard of this company before - I don't care if it's "designed specifically for . . . . . " - to me, this is an unknown variable in this camera.

I still hurt from having that crappy sensor in the M8 (line of dead pixels) and it is part of the reason why I steered clear of the M9 (not to mention the price of course :D :D )

If you just got some money and want a Leica, would you buy an M9 or a ME?

ME. Because it has faster write speed compared to M9, not to mention it will be serviced for a bit longer.

where did you see the ME has faster write speeds? looks like it has the same internals. i would love a link to that info.

The Leica M also marks the beginning of a new era in the Leica product naming policy. In future, Leica M and S model names will omit the number suffix to emphasize the enduring and long-term significance of the respective systems.

This tells me there will be many models at higher prices at shorter intervals. Doesn't make me look forward to the next model.

M-E is clearly trying to price cut the M9 without making existing M9 owners mad. Remove some items that add marginally to the cost, call it something different, sell it for what passes as a Leica "budget" price.

The M... pretty interesting. You're $10k in with the accessories that make it interesting, though, without even having bought glass yet...
