Bummer here. I just sent the M2 off to Youxin to have the framelines fixed. As I mentioned in another thread here, the 50mm f/l wasn't coming up in the vf properly.

I had both for quite a while. As a collection camera, M2, as a shooter, M4-2

I guess I made the wrong choice.

My M4-2 has been to Don Goldberg twice this year, Xounin Ye once, and now I'm sending it to Sherry Krauter (to fix a lightleak). Hopefully this will be all.

So, since my M2 is at Youxin's, getting the sticky/ghosting framelines fixed and my M8 is about to go to Solms for the Dreaded Vertical Line Problem™, I needed an M body to fill the void! I am, after all, an obsessive shooter who goes nuts if she can't trip a shutter. So, I was delighted when I saw a classified over at GetDPI for an M4-P at a great price and, with the help of my BF (who will get to use it when he visits, as if it were his own), I snagged this little bad boy:
So, as it turned out, I wound up with an M2 and an M4-*!

Innit, though?
Oddly enough, it seems smoother than my M2.

Ride, dive, shoot.
I don't know when that's gonna happen, but after M2 and MP, my next Leica body will be an M4-P (it's my "birthday" Leica) for sure. Beautiful "backup" you got there, Maggieo.

... likes film again.
Funny thing is ... I just recently bought an M2 (again) as a second body since my M7 won't come back from Leica NJ anytime soon .... So for some time it will be ... M4-P + M2
Maggie, sorry to hear about your M2 but I think that you will like the M4-P.

Thanks, Sug! It really is a well-made camera and a delight to shoot.
Here's a couple of photos from the first roll of ISO 400 C41 "SureFine" film I ran through it (Walgreens' scans, one converted to B&W, the other tweaked a wee bit for color balance):

I think you're right!
The rapid load sure works like a charm. I wish I'd been shooting an M4-P when I worked for the paper instead of the F3 or OM-2- it's such a breeze to use and light and compact and well, it's a Leica!

I have a m2 and m4. The vf of m4 is not cluttered. The 135 and 35 frame lines show up together but the 135 lines are not distracting at all as they are small. I like the rewind lever and quick loading of m4. I notice that my m4 has a slightly bigger focusing patch (correct me if I am wrong) and that helps in focusing. The film advance lever design is different and the m4 is slightly faster to use. Both cameras are equally well built. If the price difference is not great, the m4 is a better choice in my opinion.

M2 or M4, certainly, because both have a more better made body and a more better made finder.
Ciao.

I have to say that I'm loving both the M2 and the M4-P, though I am thinking about having Youxin or DAG do something about the RF flare on the M4-P.

I have no experience with your other options but I absolutely love my M2. You'll be happy with one, trust me.

Beautiful M2 you've got there! Congratulations! Looks like we have a similar setup (not sure if I identified the lens in your pic wrongly). Nokton 50 f1.5, Cron 50 DR and Summaron 35 f2.8. The M2 is a joy to use and it is one of the most affordable Ms that offers versatility and functionality in a package.
