M2 Repaint or M4 Black Chrome

I have similar dilimma deciding between M2 repaint and M4 black paint, not black chrome. I am comfortable with both camera. However; in the long run I am not sure which one will be easier to maintenance and hold better value.

Retain value?. I'd expect an original M4 black paint to hold value & appreciate more than an M2 repaint. IMO i also know which one i'd prefer to buy.

+1. I believe the M4 factory black paint will hold value rather better. But if the M2 has a nice paint job, I'd be really tempted! I think my M2 is just as easy to load, and I don't need the 135mm frameline of the M4. The rewind crank is nice, but still, the M2 would be tempting. The M2, being older, may very well have some finder problems that the M4 is less likely to have. That's a strong point for the M4.

I have just pulled the trigger today and got home with my new to me M4 black paint. 😀

Something I don't ever see mentioned, but which worries me, is how hot a black camera can get in the sun. Here at high altitudes in the desert Southwest, the rule is Sunny 22 rather than Sunny 16 for midday exposure, and in my experience, a black camera in that kind of intense sunlight can become hot enough to the touch to make me very concerned about the electronics and lubricants. Much as I prefer the look of BP or BC, I purchase equipment in silver chrome for that reason. Is this fear unwarranted? Anyone have some solid information about this?

Could consider a repaint in white? When I worked at the atomic testing grounds in Nevada, the boss had me repaint a black Mitchell BNC in white, because of the desert sun.
