M2 vs M4

You are collecting. Not using. Those who were using had the same. GW - two M4. HCB three M3, Vladimir Panasenko - seven M2.
I have two M I could barely afford. One at service, one has to go for service, because I'm not collecting, but using them.

Trung,

Most excellent use of technology I've seen in a long time.

Very well done, thank you!

B2 (;->

I have no idea how you made this M2/M4 montage, but I enjoyed watching it!

B2 and Rob, Thank you!

In fact it's quite easy job and required little time, Here are procedures:

- ensure to take exactly the same images by putting camera on tripod, manual Mode (focus/ Exposure)
- using Google photos' utilities to creat animated photos.
- copy photo's address and insert to RFF as normal.

Hope it helps,

I enjoy them all but after using the MA for the last 3 years I think its the best of the lot.

(How's that for trolling?) 😀

Any and all talk of how one film M is better, faster, more productive than any other film M makes me laugh. What? You can't spare an extra 30 seconds to load a roll of film? Unless you're on Omaha Beach on D-Day spare me. If you're shooting a film Leica in 2017 at all you got all the time in the world, mate. Chillax.

Some blokes here reply about the loading on the M3/M2 being a drawback... Ok.

Just for some encouragement - I have NEVER had a problem with the loading of an M3. When I got my iiif, that was slow at start. Then, I got to know it. Not a problem.

I've got an M2 and an M4-P and I like the M4-P better for everyday shooting. It's lighter and stealthier and since it's more of a beater, I don't worry about it.

For the inquiring reader's mind, an important note about the subject:

http://leica-m4-2.blogspot.com/2016/10/just-to-break-monotony-leica-typology.html

Now... My personal experience was this: I had an M3 and sold it to partly finance my M2. Then I sold other stuff to get an M4. Of the latter, which one is my favorite? Frankly, I don't know.
I don't know neither my favorite one currently.
But I know that after using m2 m3 m4 m6 m7,
- the m3 is my least favorite one due to the limitation of frame line
- I am fond of the m2 over m6 and m7 because of build and smoothly operating
- So far m2 and m4 is looked equally in my hands.
- May be I should try m5 and mp one day.
- Thanks that we have many choices out there. At the end of the day, we are lucky users.

Have owned them all starting in 1974 with a CL. I have never owned the last generation after the M6TTL so that leaves the MP, MA or M7 out of the previous statement. I like them all but my favorite until recently was the M2. The viewfinder is simply the best Leica ever put in a camera.

Now don't get me wrong as any M film camera works and works great. I don't use 28 or 75 so the 35/50/90 frame lines just work for me. A 135f2.8 Elmarit with goggles works fine with the M2 and for lenses wider then 28mm, one must use an auxiliary finder on any M film camera.

If I had to give up my M2, then an M4 would be great and as good. However, I have owned an M5 for eight months and it is now my favorite film body. Yes, it is not a classical M body but the shutter speed dial and TTL meter make it perfect for everyday use. If you have never handled an M5 (I had never even picked one up until the one from Sherry arrived), you owe it to yourself to try one.

The original question was M2 or M4? That really comes down to your individual taste. You CANNOT go wrong with either. For beauty, a BP M4 might be the ultimate but I doubt I would ever pay three times as much for one over a chrome M2 or M4.

That the M2 can be had without the, for me, totally redundant and irritating to the grip self timer is but one of its attributes. On such small details swings a decision.
BTW the best thing about the rapid loading kit is the price it brings when you sell it, keep the box.
