I just bought a m6 and 50 summicron today.. and it needs some repair. the curtains were stuck and now the one curtain (the second) is on a slight angle and causes a space between he first and second. It also doesnt cover the first as it should.

I was wondering if anyone had fixed this problem before by themselves.. and if they could let me know how!

I do plan to get it fixed regardless. I was just seeing what could be done.

Thanks.

Hmmm - the camera needs to be opened up, and the M6 will have static-sensitive electronics in it. And, I think after you fix the mechanicals, you'll need the Leica computer to re-cal the meter.

I think the M5 and beyond cameras (M6, M7, M8 and M9) moved into the realm of "can't fix at home".

And your M6 probably has something wrong with the shutter tape, or maybe the light shield, fouling the shutter curtain, which could be a straight-forward mechanical fix.

Good luck

I took the door off to get a better look at it and it does not look like I can fix it at home unfortunately. Earlier the second curtain came almost fully off on the bottom and it looks as if the tape(?) is bunched or torn I'm really not sure... I tried to get the curtain back on track but was unable. So off to repair i guess. I hope that it can be done quick as for I have a trip to alaska and australia around the 24th and would like to bring 2 bodies with me.

I had a shutter failure on my M3 6 months ago that sounds similar to what is going on with you. Your curtain, or the ribbon may need to be re-laminated to the drum. I would definitely not mess with it. I sent mine to Youxin Ye, and he overhauled it and replaced the first curtain because it had a rip. The turn around was pretty quick, aside from a USPS mix up.

In Canada, go to Kindermann for top service.

There is also David Yau, in Toronto.

Youxin would be cheapest; I would guess Yau in the middle and Kindermann at the top.

Youxin would involve possible customs delay; Yau might be persuaded to do yours right away if you are going on a trip.

Youxin's price was $120 for cla, $40 for un-jamming the shutter and $50 for replacement of shutter curtain, plus shipping.

Sounds resonable, but dealing with the trip soon coming, time is an issue.

I have emailed kindermann and David Yau... hopeing to hear back from one or the other soon. But also will be calling them soon.

I do have a ttl .85 body that is good working order, so worst comes to worst I will still have one camera.
