M6 to MP finder upgrade how to tell?

So I have had my M6 since 2006 and really don't know what the white out finder looks like. The wax seal on the lens mount is gone so I guess it was CLAed or serviced before I got it.
Is it just the center patch, the entire finder that whites out?? I have never had an issue with not being able to focus. When I shoot facing the sun and it's maybe at a 10-30 degree angle to my plane the center patch will get whiter but I can still focus.
The small band on the front of the finder that indicates .72 or .85 is either faded, gone or maybe was never there. But it's .72
Is there a way to tell for sure?????
 
I had my M6ttl 0.85 viewfinder upgraded. I could tell the difference. Before the upgrade the viewfinder (center patch) would flare or white out. Now it does not. By consensus (There are discussions on the net ref. this upgrade which is what I relied upon when I did the upgrade.) the only M6 viewfinder that needed it was the 0.85. However, IMHO, the MP viewfinder is better than the M6 viewfinder
 
The higher the magnification the more obvious the flare is. For many the stock 0.72 finder is good enough.

But I had to upgrade a 0.85 one of mine as the patch whited out with the tiniest amount of light in frame.
 
My M6 TTL 0.72 whited out on occasion. I got it upgraded and the biggest difference I noticed is that the whole viewfinder seems to be a bit higher contrast which I find makes it easier to focus. Still can't hold a candle to my M3, but it's better than it was.

If the white out has never affected your shooting then maybe you should leave it alone. The upgrade is meant to reduce flaring of the RF focusing patch only. It will not improve the VF. That's my personal experience.
