Most users are probably still shooting without filters...either they don't know about them (not on newsgroups) or haven't been able to get them.....Leica still probably believes that the IR issue only affects a small part of their customer base...

And it does in the real world.. On the Internet however
But I suffer from the same IR sensitivity my M8 does, so who am I to judge?

My own feeling is that Leica are really out of their depth. I'll still wait and hold for my fourth M8 to arrive and hope it will be trouble free, perhaps even have the new FW already. I really like the camera and hope makes me smile again, just like it did when I first got it. I just wish I could get some positive feedback from Leica regarding what can and can't be fixed in FW so I don't have to feel like I've got 5K tied up in a dead duck. I could reinvest in other tools and be quite happy to have at least tried.
My guess is that Leica is on top of this, is closely watching these forums and that they will soon release a firmware fix to take care of this cameras few outstanding issues. As it stands I and many M8 photogs are shooting with a perfectly reliable camera. For others they need a fix for a few hiccups and I'd guess Leica will stand and deliver a firmware fix very very soon.

I'm guessing they're listening too, so I've decided to return my M8. What better way to tell them I'm sick of waiting than that? It may be different for me seeing as I live at the ends of the earth, but I really do need to get solid answers quickly in situations like this as I need to plan future projects and jobs around what gear and materials are avaliable to me. From what I've heard, FW 1.10 for M8 is now delayed until mid April at the very earliest! That's way too late for me. I'm booked from then and wouldn't have time to test anything or get to know the true limits of the camera before doing serious work.
To be fair, I loved the camera when it worked and I've probably drawn the short straw as far as getting bad apples when others are shooting without problems. I just need to see how things pan out in the next six months. I will reinvest in other Leica gear because I really like the film products and think the local people are brilliant. I can't fault the service I've received from them at all and I'd like to honour their efforts by staying loyal.
