M9 - 18mp, 24x36 for reservations?

The guy at my local Leica shop in Montreal told me last week that a full frame digital rangefinder was impossible and that the M9 will come out not before 2011 whatever I've heard on the internet....

But frankly, I think he just wanted to sell me one of his M8 that was taking dust on the stand... I don't think Leica would spreads some false rumors that could endanger the sales of the M8. They probably plans to do something....

Sorry dude at the Leica boutique, I'll wait for the M9 and I'll not buy that beauty from you 😀. Anyway, do I have an urge to buy a digital rangefinder? Nop, patience is my friend right now, standing just next to my M6 :angel:.

Really why? Canon has best sensors with good color and no Kodak sensors problems, like hot lines or green ghosts. :bang:

canon 5dmkii has hot pixels instead, i use R on canon and the quality is superb. the Bad color characteristics of canon is the result of terrible lens quality. simply hook ur 28-90 or 35-70 2.8 on ur canon FF and voila great colors!

I'm not a fan of Canon and I don't think the Canon has a best sensors. The Canon may have some good picture processing for it's own colors but I don't like it either.

I shoot with Canon every day and it's sensors are fantastic, better than the troubled Kodak M8 sensor with banding, noise and IR issues. I'm sorry but you explanation doesn't seem like it's based on any real user experience. With the right lenses my 1D cameras can easily better the M8.

Ah, the late, great Patrick McGoohan! Haven't thought of him in a while. I liked him better as "Secret Agent Man" but Prisoner was good. Glad I'm not the only archaic gentlemen in residence 😀

The Prisoner was one of the best TV shows ever offered in the U.S. (naturally we had to import it from England :bang: ). Patrick McGoohan is a favorite of mine, and many TV buffs proffer that his prior series Danger Man/Secret Agent was a precursor. In any event, I think the character he played in The Prisoner was
Number Six. Not to worry though, I guess it depends on how you are looking at it. 6 morphs to 9 when it passes through the lens and hits the film..😉

You can love your canon and I can love my m8, end of discussion. It's a personal preference. But I've never liked the Canon's Digic processor and it's bad af (body/lens) problems.

Its not absurd, any system has faults and advantages, learn them to fit your job. even a $40K digital back has problems and issues. R lenses are great performers when attached to 5dmkii / 1dsmkiii sensor. I usually shoot medium and large but the only system (combination) that delivers good quality in 135digital (from my experience) is 5dmkii sensor with R lenses. I dont have anything against any company, I only look for quality so i can satisfy the needs of my clients. Leica M is a different story. being able to expose with an M camera is an art itself some don't appreciate it.

He was indeed Number 6...for almost the whole series. 🙄 I agree, pretty much my favorite TV show ever. My wife and I are such huge fans that we actually spent our second honeymoon at Portmeirion, Wales, where parts of the show were filmed (that is, "The Village"), and we have the Pennyfarthing logo stickered to our car.

There's a new version of the series coming this fall from the BBC, by the way...

Yes - there was a word from them. They refused to confirm the rumour, which in itself is odd. If a rumour is hurting the sales of one of the main products of a company, and the rumour is untrue, one would expect a vehement denial.

Seriously - you hit the essential caveat- with the right lenses. Unfortunately DSLR cameras cannot take Leica M glass.
Also you have it the wrong way around. One does not buy a rangefinder to enter the megapixel competition,. One buys a rangefinder for the concept.

I had both M8 and 5D mkII and is about to receive another M8. Although M8 provides great sharpness, 5D mkII equals at lower ISO 100-200, marginally betters at 320/400, and clearly betters after that. The 22MP 5D sensor really brings out all the potentials of the lenses and you can get amazing IQ from the L series lenses. Ironically, the M8 image color is so similar to Canon DSLRs that I sometimes prefer the R-D1. The strength of M8 is the M system lens and operation and size as well. In terms of censor quality and electronic control, it is no match for advanced DSLRs like 5D mk II. The DRF market is so tiny and in lack of competitors that we are still begging for technologies long implemented in the DSLRs.

But I still would reach out for an M8 most of the time for personal work. It is all about the convenience of a digitized M system.
