M9 top tips?

A lesson to the wise:

KEEP A WATCH ON THE M9 STRAP EYELETS.

I had one come completely off the camera. I had the camera in my hand at the moment I realized the strap was hanging loose detached from the body. Leica NJ replaced both strap eyelets and did a complete camera check at the same time. This is essential as the screws that attach the eyelet can get into the shutter works, not a good situation.

For low light dont exceed ISO 500, but instead underexpose and push in LR. This limits the noise.

For tripod work use the RRS base plate.

+1 After 2 years with the M9 I began maxing at iso 640 and then pushing in Lightroom, incredulously at first. Results are easily better than normal exposures at 2500 and less noticeably at 1250.

Oh and don't use discreet mode and keep shooting despite the slow buffer clearance. Most times it will catch up and, slowly, you will acclimate to ridiculously slow pace. (I'm lying. Chances are, you won't. But it's still a fine camera.)

Another plus for what Godfrey said ... exploring the camera's capabilities yourself will teach you a lot more than most of what you read.

I have coded my CV 15/4.5 as the WATE, I like the look right out of the camera, as such I don't use Cornerfix.

To correct the Italian Flag problem the Leica 21mm Elmarit-M pre-ASPH (11134) is a better option. The WATE is one of the Leicas wides that needs less correction.

DxO Film Pack is an excellent addition to LR/Photoshop. In LR, it makes a copy of the image that can be modified with the LR controls.
