Noticed that the celebrated Nikon D300 is made in Thailand and the German company Zeiss had their lenses and cameras made in Japan.

Maybe better than the digital pentax optio i own, which has optics "made in japan" but is "assembled in philippines" with "made in china" bateries..
My zeiss ikon and nokton 35 are proudly signed as "made in japan". But they are doing a good job in thailand with the nikons, isn't it?

My wife was made in Thailand, and I have no complaints about her construction

My Leica M4-P and all 4 lenses were made ( or at least assembled )in Canada. It cost a bit, considering how simple the set up is, but it is the most reliable camera I own.
My other cameras were made in other countries, China, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, etc. they are all excellent cameras but I really favor my ratty old Canadian Leica.
Where a camera is made means nothing, but I like to think that people made it and not in some completely automated factory far from the desk of the original designer.
