Mamiya 7 and v700

Hey there,

Does anyone know how many frames I can scan at once with this combination?

2 2/3 (maybe 2 3/4 if you're lucky). 6x7 is a little awkward for most flatbed scanners.

If you haven't already bought one, may I suggest a BetterScanning roll-flm holder and ANR glass? It helps greatly in keeping the film flat and giving sharper scans.

Thanks, highly appreciated. I expected it to be two rather than three, sadly. A lot better than one with the v500 though. I like the better scanning stuff, but I don't really have issues with film flatness (120 film), and sharpness is sufficient as well (for me, that is).

Another recommendation for the betterscanning holder.

You can scan any film on the glass that fits inside 8x10, but you need a plate of ANR glass to hold it down and you have to use the lower resolution lens that focuses on the platen. (I know it does 1200 dpi, but I am not really sure of the maximum resolution). The film area guide should be used if you go this route.

Interesting, but I actually do cut in two. I wouldn't know how to store negatives cut in three anyway.

I'll soon have a dedicated film scanner available if necessary (not mine, though), so I'd scan 1200 dpi with the v700 to store the file and scan in higher resolution on the dedicated scanner if need be. I didn't know the v700 had two lenses.

i just switched from the v500 to the v700 because i shoot 6x7. and yes, as the others have said, it will scan 4 at a time as opposed to the 1 on the v500

Anything else you noticed? Speed increase maybe, or better quality?

Did you guys mess with the height of the holders? Was it necessary?

i barely got the v700 from amazon and there was a plasticky particle stuck to the INSIDE of the glass, so it's all boxed up ready to be shipped for an exchange. sorry, wish i could give more input, but yeah, the medium format guides while shooting 6x7 is the main reason i upgraded from the v500. even if the actual speed of the scan isnt any better, being able to scan 4 at a time is going to be wayyy better than one at a time for me

I'm pretty set on either the v700 or the v750, depending on availability. I will buy at our local photography store, in case I'll have to exchange it.

As for various 3rd party accessories, I might get those holders - but it adds up quickly with shipping and taxes. I'd rather buy the 43mm for the Mamiya.

One thing I suggest doing when you first set up the V700 is do a test scan with a neg that has very sharp detail and contrast. The holders have eccentric screws that function as height adustments, allowing you to fine-tune the focus.

Not a bad idea, Martin. Shipping something as large as the scanner back and forth would be a pain - and expensive. Do shop around a little though.

The holder and inserts are rather light and flat, so the shipping shouldn't be too bad on those.

As for the 43mm... I can totally understand that. Along with the 50mm, these two lenses are THE "killer app" for the platform. If you buy any lens for the M7/M7II it should be one of these!

Do you ever consider selling either the 50mm or the 43mm? How close do they feel; do you ever carry both? I only have the 80mm, and I'm looking for something along the lines of a 28mm on 35mm. I guess it comes down to either the 50 or the 43.

I'll check how much it would be to get those holders to Germany.

Amazon just recommended me the fluid mount accessory - does one of you have it? Does this thing maybe take 3x 6x7?
