Micro Four Thirds & Leica M Mount

Ha..look at that! and I thought it was the aperture, he he. The comment was lighthearted by the way Avotius, no reason to get upset :)
You should have seen the picture of me close up looking into the lens he he

That's not the reason I got back into this topic though....look at the CG versions showing what looks like an EVF...interesting, but overall I do like the look of this "artist's version". It does look a lot like an M8 though i think, especially in the rear!

Sorry, short fuse lately, no work, very difficult job market and dipping deep into my savings and ever looming threat of having to sell of some of my prized photographic items....been one of those summers.

I got a pretty ugly shot of myself looking into the lens too, I belong on the other side of that glass when the camera is taking pictures...

I do like that idea of a EVF like what the Ricoh GX100 has, this design seems much more down to earth though and I like the idea that I can swap it out for a glass finder if I so wished (with fixed focal length lens that is). Regardless though, when m4/3 comes out I will give it a long hard look to replace my very ailing 20D.

I like what the "pics' have shown as possible at this point...

I do hope that with the Micro 4/3 format that we will have an option to "see" things in the 3:2 format as well...

I fail to see why so many people would want to put Leica glass on a small noisy sensor in a camera design which sees to have no provisions for an optical viewfinder. I got a GR-II for those things and have an M8 for a platform that lets me get the maximum out of those lenses.

Leica M glass may not be suitable for a 4/3 sensor. But those Zeiss, Cooke 20/2, 10/2 sine lenses might work well on this camera.:D It looks like a Leica type camera in digital world. The original Leica was designed as a compact travel, low light, street camera.

Also a nice platform to put my Zuiko 42/1.2 on :)

It looks like there certainly will be some mirrorless 4/3rds - APS-C cameras announced at this year's Photokina.

As per DPReview - "We have already seen the Micro Four Thirds announcement and so fully expect to see products from Panasonic and Olympus. Samsung have also stuck their oar in the water and stated that they too are working on a compact system which uses an APS-C size sensor."

I may have missed the point completely here, but I'm just 'thinking aloud'.

So far it looks like Micro Four-Thirds is an entirely live-view system... but only so far. But is there a possibility of MFT providing a production-ready base for someone like Cosina to build a DRF on?

Seeing a lot of blanket statements here that MFT is "not a DRF" but I would have thought that should ready "not a DRF... yet."

I don't understand why some company can't put a decent sized sensor (4/3rds, or whatever it is) in a box, make some compact interchangeable lenses for it (zooms and fast primes), put a shoe on the top and give the thing autofocus as well as snap mode. People can use it as a higher quality chimper with a zoom and compose on the back, or put the primes on and a finder in the shoe for using it like an rf.

Who wouldn't want one? Soccer mums (moms) get higher quality pictures of the game without having to squint through a finder, we have a camera that's not so far from using our rf's (quite like a hexar af). The last thing I want is an evf, it just takes up more space (than no evf) and puts my accessory finder further from the lens.

So kind of what you'd get if you put a Ricoh GRD, a Sigma DP1 and Micro Four Thirds in a blender?

Sounds ideal, actually :D

Yep, or ripped the prism out of the OlympusE-420 or 520 or whatever, and made some more primes for it. I'd buy one. In fact, the primes bit is most important.

so they made an interchangeable lens version of their V-lux 1. I really don't get it now. Live view through the vf? What's the point? Sure it's smaller but it's essentially the same as p&s with slightly bigger sensor.

I hope sony's new full frame 24mega pixel sensor can be utilized in some way to work with a digital rangefinder in the near future.

It's the technology filled plastic box that RF'ers say they don't like. I think it's kind of cool, a modern version of the Pentax 110 SLR. It will be interesting to see how they handled noise with this one.
