Minolta CLE rokkor 40mm F2 on an R-D1

I just won a rokkor on ebay the other day.. yet to arrive, hopefully tomorrow.

Looks a good one hopefully.. though missing caps, hood, and i may add a filter (i'll have to dig up the filter size, 40.5mm i think).

Anyways was just wondering about it with my R-D1.. being bayonet fit it will fit directly onto my R-D1 wont it, no adapter required?

Being a 40mm lens, and the fact that i wear glasses, i'm wondering which frameline will work best.. will the 50mm lines be almost exactly correct for the 40mm view? seeing as the lines are typically generous when working with the lens they're set at...

Yes, it will fit directly on your R-D 1 without any kind of adapter, and it should work fine and perform well.

Based on my experience using the C-V 40/1.4 on an R-D 1, I'd suggest you use the 35mm framelines as long as your subjects are farther away than about 10 feet. The 35mm framelines are a very close match for a 40mm lens at longer distances.

At distances closer than roughly 10 feet, the 35mm frames will start showing more than will appear on your final image (because the lens increases its effective focal length as you focus closer.) This could result in objects being cropped out that you expected to be included. At close distances, you may want to switch to 50mm; you'll get quite a bit more on the image than you saw through the finder, but at least you'll be able to be sure that everything you saw within the finder lines will show up on the picture.

I like this lens very much on my R-D1. Yes, it fits right on without an adapter. I use the 35 mm lines and they seem to be close enough.

Attached are three shots taken with this lens on the R-D1, straight from the Epson raw converter. No changes made, other than white balance and resizing. Notice a small amount of vignetting, certainly nothing objectionable.

Thanks for the replies guys good to know... especially on possibly switching framelines depending on if you're shooting near or far.. hopefully with glasses the 35mm may just relate nicely to whats visible throughout the range.

Hope its a nice performer and small to boot.. wont hurt the R-D1 at all..

Still the same but i've got some front focus issues at short to medium distance from time to time, i don't know why.
Otherwise the more noticeable difference with the Summicron-C 40/2 is the little rubber hood of the later that doesn't fit on the Rokkor unfortunately.
BTW i mainly use the 35mm framelines as well.

The M-Rokkor will fit on the R-D1.
Best framelines are the 35mm lines. A perfect match.

nice pictures RML, there are a few broken links on that first page (a lot of the night time times square shots).. I'll look through more later.. received the lens now.. seems in great condition with nothing obvious to see on it.. seems to be sharp and focused where my rangefinder is telling me it is. Will be looking now on my PC to have more of an idea.

i'm on the look out for a rear cap for the lens.. could someone clear up what i'm looking for.. what are the two names for the two types of lecia fit.. screw in, and what this rokkor is.. Is the rokkor lens an M mount lens? Is LTM mount for the old style screw-in leica lens. So am i looking for an LTM rear cap, an M rear cap, or something different? Cheers

The M-Rokkor, as the name implies, is an M mount lens. On eBay you can buy M mount rear caps per piece or even per 5 or 10. They don't cost much. I bought a cheap set of 10 rear caps + camera body caps about a year ago and whenever I have a new lens I at least have a rear cap available in the drawer. The set must have been very cheap or else I wouldn't have bought it.
