Monochrom 246 and Leica SL in New Mexico

Odd thing about New Mexico and Montana (places I've lived: also WY, ID, rural OR, rural WA and rural CA). Guns are viewed much differently than they are elsewhere. People often ask me, "Aren't you freaked out when someone's walking downtown with a GUN strapped to their belt?" The answer is "No". Not exactly sure why, but its just so common it doesn't seem odd until you live somewhere else. In New Mexico, I don't think you can walk about with a gun on the hip in ABQ or LC, but most of the rest of the state its not so odd.

BTW, in Montana you should assume that EVERYONE has a gun. That includes the little hunched-over grandma. Montana, like NM, is a unique culture. Think about it: we're supposed to be the "Red West", but routinely elect Democratic officials. Most Montanans could care less about gay marriage, as long as "you keep that sh,t away from me". Well, its a live and let live mentality that I suppose I can live with.

I talked to my wife about a trip back to NM last night. She proceeded to list the negatives, but conceded the place is under our skin -- permanently. We'll go. I need to start planning the particulars. So many friends we haven't seen for a while...and a REAL night sky! Looking forward to that. BTW, I'm definitely lugging the 4x5. I'll bring the Crown Graphic and a couple lenses. In particular the 90 SA.
 
One other thing.
Vince, are you going to do anything with these awesome images I've seen? A book? Prints for offer?
Maybe use one in the RFF postcard project (I'm in this time)?
Many of the images on this thread would make really nice prints.

Yes I will be making prints of all the good ones, and they will hopefully be integrated into two ongoing projects. One is called 'Invisible Threads' (link is below), and the other is 'Mapping the West'. I exhibited both last year in area galleries, and I actually have a solo show in August at the Leica Store in Washington DC. Hopefully a few from this latest 'wander' will make it into the show. I also just connected with an art consultant a couple of months ago, and she already sold four 'Western' photos to a collector.

I'm showing work to one exhibition space in Madrid tomorrow, and I'm dropping prints off to a gallery in Santa Fe tomorrow for review (I managed to bring a box of 30 - 13"x19" prints along). Plus I spoke with another gallery in SF this morning, and I'll be submitting my work to them online. We'll see if anything comes of any of these opportunities.

Really trying to make a go of this.

Mad-Rid was the location of the shoot-out outside a bar while I lived in N.M. Mad-Rid was the local enuncation for Madrid.

Wonderful portrait, Vince. Love the placement of the face and hand perfectly within the dof.

That sort of shot right there, I think that's the bread and butter of that combo.

Many thanks -- now you can see why it's difficult to choose between the two cameras. Ultimately, however, I think I will stick with the 246.

Many thanks for your interest and feedback -- I might see if I can squeeze in a couple of more shots in ABQ before my flight tomorrow.

BTW I did finally come to a conclusion regarding the 246 vs the SL. As much as I love the SL, I still appreciate the handling and more straightforward approach of the 246, in addition to the results.
 
Last shot while I'm here - with the SL and Noctilux at f/2.8.

I'll hopefully find a few more photos in the mix once I'm home and have had a chance to review everything, and I will have to go through the colour versions from the SL for the newspaper story.

Just got home last night, and had a look at my photos in this thread on my home computer. Some of them do look a tad darkish, so as expected, I'll likely adjust them and possibly re-upload them.
