This kind of got buried below the Sony RX1 hubub, which looks to be an amazing little piece of camera, but RED Camera has announced a new RED Epic-M Monochrome Black and White Camera. Given, this camera is geared specifically towards filmmakers but it is the next digital monochrome camera to be released this year. Also one of the most brilliantly thought out cameras with it's ability to be almost completely modular (you can swap out sensors if yours ever dies!), but also the ugliest piece of black tar you have ever seen.

Point is, I hope this trend continues.

Wow ... that makes a Mamiya Press look beautiful!

Interesting development though!

This resurgence in black and white is fascinating ... and with the Monochrom at the price it is people will be looking for ways to jump on board without spending that sort of money.

It may actually be beneficial to black and white film in a trickle down way.

Being optimistic here! :D

I'd like to see more cameras sporting enigmatic, comic-book influenced phrases like the "MYSTERIUM-X" at the base of the Red Epic.

My old GW690 has the ghostly (chalky) phrase "#7" on it....

You must be really quick with advancing film, releasing the shutter and especially changing rolls if you shoot movies with your Yashica-Mat... respect!

Hahah. I understand the sentiment though, if you are only shooting black and white film stills then this is beyond overkill. Like the computers of olden days that were gianormous and ghastly expensive, technology always improves and lessens in cost. Just the nature of it. I'm just excited for the future!

Lets just say I know several people who shoot with RED's and will with this once it comes out. They don't BUY them! They rent them from gear shops who buy these! Hahahaha
