My ISO dial just fell off! A little angry.....

As some of you may know, I just purchased a brand new Leica MP for a little over three grand. As I was practicing my focus technique earlier tonight, the plastic ISO dial fell of my brand new camera!

Of course the camera still works but, when one pay this much money for a camera, you don't expect pieces to start falling off on the third day :bang:

Hopefully this is the only problem I have with this camera.

I'll take it back to the shop tommorow. Hopefully they can superglue it back on or something.

Just a little ticked off right now......😡

Sorry to hear that. Luckily I guess you won't have a warranty problem.

Nevertheless I think I'll bookmark this thread for the next discussion about anecdotal build quality problems on the ZI, when someone points out that the ZI is no Leica build quality-wise.

I didn't know that the Mp had a plastic iso dial... One more pros for the classic wetzlars.

Now that I think about it, I'll take the advice Magus and Rover gave me and request for a new MP. If something simple like the ISO dial is falling off on the third day, what could happen next?

Also, I think this reflects poorly on Leica's workmanship.

My new MP should be the flawless photographic tool I've always dreamed about.

(At the least, all of it's parts should stay on and work properly!)

I read this, while sitting here and looking at my '56 vintage DS M3. There's nothing that can (or at least looks likely to) fall off that. Including the ISO reminder dial. Then I think what "Mechanical Perfection" might mean. I think my M3 might be closer than a modern MP, albeit without modern shutter speeds (mine has the old-fashioned ones), light meters (though I'm happy with the modern CV II meter) and other such stuff.

And I think two further things. One is that an MP might be closer to "Mechanical Perfection" than pretty much anything non-lethal you can buy these days "brand new". Despite the fact that it isn't close enough to the things from the "old days" it is trying to emulate.

And I also think that Leica may be in trouble if I can sit back and quite complacently think my M3 is "better" than any M7 or MP I might like to buy.

I'm not going to buy an M8. At least I'm probably not going to. But, damnit, they should be trying to encourage me to buy an MP. I tell you, it really could work. But stories like this don't help.

Another voice in favor a insisting on a new camera. The only alternative, which might be worth it, is to ask Leica to replace the entire back panel of the camera with the M6 style ISO dial. Early MP's were built that way & every so often you see one for sale with the M6 ISO dial. I've never had anything like this happen with the M6...

sorry to hear about that dial just falling off your brand new leica.
i guess they don't make 'em like they used to.
my mood would be dark as well and i also would want another body.
