I'm probably going to say something very silly. I absolutely love those film grains in these wonderful thread!

all great, i especially like the blurred image of the horse-n-carriage on this page. it breaks up the "monotony" (sarcasm) of all your great portraits!!
I would be really interested in your editing process: all these great images, but how
do you choose to put 20 or so together that "tell the story" ??
E.g.: I have found that even some of the best stand-alone images I can take do not make the final cut for the final 20 images that I would present as a body of work: the images have to work together as a group, rather than having 20 great images that do not relate to one another as a whole.
Thanks for the compliment and the question about my editing process......I remember my editor telling me outside the Gamma building in Paris, it was late evening, gray and cold outside and we were chatting after a long day of looking at photos..... as we were saying good bye he told me, "you have a lot of beautiful photos, but we need a story".....I will never forget walking down the street alone thinking about what he said......
I presented a body of work to him, there were three different stories from India/Pakistan and he was interested in 2 of the three, but they were not "complete"......I needed more photos of "X", "Y" and "z" in order to finish/publish/sell the story......but they did buy/sell one of my stories to Paris Match.....
as far as the photos in this thread go, I am just taking photos of the country and what I see....there is no specific story behind these photos, just good times for me.....and perhaps a show/book on Myanmar in the future.....but to be honest, there is no story behind any of these that would form a story.......but I understand what you are saying.....
I did do a story about ice-water sellers in Yangon (there is a link to it somewhere else in this thread) that got published a couple of weeks ago in the Jakarta Post...I got a full page (cover page) and 6 colorful photos printed and a small write up by myself...........
this photo was a complete surprise, I wandered away from a hill-tribe market in Shan State and came across a small gambling area that was tucked away from the main market.....anyways, I watched for a little bit and then took this photo......about 20 seconds later, I got tapped on the shoulder and a man told me "no photos" and I said "ok, sorry" and put my camera away and continued to observe the gambling for about 20 minutes......the longer I stood there and watched all these different kinds of gambling games that they play, the more I wanted to photograph them,
but I didn't......but I kept thinking about that "one" photo that I did manage to take before I was told not to......anyways, here it is.....

cheers, michael
p.s., the guy slowly pulls the cord and the plastic pole slowly moves and one block falls at a time....it is really classic entertainment.....they had a couple of other cool games they played but I couldn't photograph them....

Here are some photos from my recent trip.......I had a very difficult time......I broke a lens, I visited some "no-go zones" where foreigners are not allowed to go and got into some serious trouble with the police and heard some really sad stories from ethnic people who are fighting the army (government)..... I have lots of photos that I have to go through and I will post some more in the next couple of days......

This thread has inspired me to look into travelling to Burma this year. In touch with a guy living there who is advising me on timing and details. Thanks for sharing Michael.
