This thread has inspired me to look into travelling to Burma this year. In touch with a guy living there who is advising me on timing and details. Thanks for sharing Michael.

Thanks a lot.....it's not a place for everyone, but then again, there isn't a place for everyone.....but if you are inspired by the photos and you have a friend living there, I say go for it.......It is changing very fast and with elections coming up in April, I suspect even more changes will be coming......

Hello Everybody, I just got back from Kayah State, Myanmar. It has been closed off to foreigners for over 60 years because of ethnic violence but they just recently "opened" it up to tourists without the need for special permits or government tour guides. I have been wanting to go to this region for years because there are many different ethnic groups that live there...... I had very little information on the capital "Loikaw" and I sort of just took a gamble and went there. I was the the only tourist in town and it was an amazing experience.... I walked about 2 hours outside of town and went to a Padaung village ( long neck women) and I was fortunate enough to have met the son of one of the ladies. He spoke some English and ended up invited me back to his house. It was a humbling experience, having dinner among his family and they invited me back the next day...... I ended up spending many days with his family in his village and it was good fun....... After looking at my photos, I am not that pleased with them, but the experience and the friendships that were made were awesome..... I plan on going back in March when the weather is a little warmer and to see what else I can photograph....

Michael, Thank you for sharing all your photos and the last story from Burma. Very interesting and inspiring.
Look forward to your next uploads.

Wonderful, fascinating pictures !!

I just scrolled slowly though all of these.

A beautiful adventure for those of us who will never see it make it there.

Thank you, Michael.

This last trip was pretty difficult for me because I was in a cold part of the country, and I usually like to wake up around 5:30-6:00am in the morning to hit the streets and watch the city wake up, but the small town I was staying in was so cold, it was hard to get up early and shoot in the morning light that I prefer.......but I am ok with that, I met some good people and met some friends who live in that town and I plan on going back to visit them in a couple of months when the weather is warmer.....anyways, here are some more photos.....
