Nazi march in Sweden, with X-Pro2

Hi!
September 30, nazis tried to march the streets of Gothenburg. Thousands of people turned up and stopped them. Here are some of my photos from the demonstration. I couldn’t photograph the nazis because they broke the law at the very beginning of there marching so the police shut them down and surrounded them. Me and the anti nazis was also surrounded by the police so that there could not be a battle between anti nazis and nazis. My photos are all from the antifa point of view.

Also, behind the scenes.

Where are the Nazis

I confess, I do not know much about Nordiska motståndsrörelsen (NMR) - the "Nazis" of this thread but am willing to believe that they are ugly. But are they any more ugly than the violent, masked antifas brutes who turn out in force to oppose not just these guys but anyone who is not further to the left than Marx, Lenin and Stalin? The only Nazi symbols I saw were in a socialist leaflet by the way.

When I see NMR members marching quietly and in an orderly way in videos of the demonstration on Youtube it is pretty clear to me which side actually caused the mayhem. Just like in USA. Just like in Australia. Just like in every country. None of which have have NMR by the way. But it does not stop antifas who are willing to beat up, pepper spray and sucker punch ordinary citizens as well in the name of their ideology. At least I do not see the "Nazis" doing that.

I certainly give no support to Nazis but boy does it "P" me off to see the fascist Left get a free pass by the media and authorities - every time. Every time.
100% agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I should have gave you more of a background. I couldn’t photograph the nazis because they broke the law at the very beginning of there marching so the police shut them down and surrounded them. Well then, that makes your photos somewhat irrelevant.

So if you couldn't photograph Nazis then the title ("Nazi march") is quite misleading because we don't see any Nazis... It's like the photograph of the Jupiter which is not visible on the photograph because it is very far away. I see some symbols of Rättvisepartiet Socialisterna (far left, Marxist movement) and it gives some hint at the level of tension - potential clash of two radical movements... It is not very clear from your description - why you could not photograph Nazis? Your statement that because they broke the law is a bit strange - what prohibits taking the pictures of people breaking the law? That is the essence of photojournalism, isnt't it?

I wrote that the nazis was surrounded by police and me and the anti nazi was surrounded. This was at two different places so I could not get to the nazis. The part of town where the nazis where hold back by the police was completely shut down. That’s why I couldn’t photograph them.

Wow, people really have feelings about this, I haven’t seen people write so much in their posts for a long time. And a lot is not even about the photos. This really is a sensitive topic right now. I can see a lot of personal political thoughts in your words and it’s great! We should talk. I’m glad that some people like the pictures. I listen to the ”bad” critics and I will remember your thoughts next time I photograph in this situations. I can sure learn a lot!

Sorry to anyone who felt misled by the title. In Sweden we just call it the nazi march so it was natural for me to call it that.

Next time I will try to get a press pass so I can walk around more freely.

The “fascist left” don’t get off that easily in Sweden. They are hated by a lot of people and politicians. Last time we had this kind of riot a far left person got shot by the police for throwing rocks.

Yes, yes they most definitely are. Even with that mischaracterization.

I agree, the title is indeed misleading. It should be "Photography of potential people that would be kicked out of the country by Nazis interacting in a Nazi march."

Much more comprehensive isn't it?

My apologies, it's one of those phrases that makes my eye twitch in annoyance.

Not wishing to enflame things here but here is but one of many examples of the "non fascist" fascists of antifa and demonstrates the point I was making. If they are not fascist perhaps we need a new epithet but I for one am happy to stick with the fascist description. And in one of those attacks why did they do it? Because a gay man Milo Yianoppolos came to speak in support of free speech. If that is not fascist I do not know what is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S33HVduI474
