Neck strap for Leica M2 and Canonet

How hard can it be? Well, I looked around and my favourite camera store has a 'one size fits all' strap available.

However, judging the picture it will not fit my M2 or Canonet, with their small round strap lugs, the strap seems intended for the current crop of SLRs.

Probably Leica has one, made of the leather of the private parts of panda bears... and a price to match. You guys know of an alternative?

Hey Ronald, if you don't want to go for the Panda Leica strap or anything like that (silk A&A, whatever) I would suggest the 1" Domke strap - will fit the M2, is black and looks very unassuming but the inside (the shoulder side) is lined with gripping rubber which makes it almost impossible for your camera to slip down your shoulder.

Another possibility, though given the lightweight of Leica cameras & lenses I don't think you'd need it, is to consider the Lowepro straps, they are very comfortable for huge DSLR and make you feel you are lugging much less weight (I use them on my Nikons).

it's very soft and easy to warp around lens and pack in my bags easily.

I use the standard Domke Gripper on my M2 (and M3 and M6). It's cheap, but it works. Perhaps it is not readily available in The Netherlands.

Ronald, do your cameras not have metal rings in their strap lugs? As for the Panda Scrotum version, you can get it much cheaper from China.

I use a domke gripper strap with my M2. It has little bits of leather behind the metal rings that hold the strap in place to stop the rings from scuffing the camera, which is a nice touch. Also the strap seems very well made, and is quite comfortable.

It turns out it is... but my usual retailer had it listed under bags, not under straps 😀 I looked at the Domke accesories and there it was. Ordered two for good measure. Should have them by Wednesday. They are indeed quite cheap.

If that's the 1 inch gripper strap, hat's exactly the one I meant 😀 you will be happy with it!

i am using an original canonet one on the m2 right now. The original yashica gsn type also fits both. But that one is on my rolleiflex now.

Actually, ANY strap fits that allows for a "keychain ring" type metal stuff to be attached to it. Sorry i can't explain it better. Here's a photo I do now with my webcam 😉

The best way to go for me is the hook, slide, sling, system sold by Leicagoodies.com. It's secure, safe and quick--what else would you want?

However, "Classic"--not.

Nikon is not exactly European, but their remote for the D200 is more than 100 Euros. A cheap Chinese knockoff is 15...

I laughed very hard when people insisted I'd buy the Nikon, because of the better quality. It's a damn switch with a wire for goodness sake! I can wear out a bag of copies before I ever reach the price level of the genuine stuff.

And a cable release would work just as well and be even cheaper...
