My wife wants to buy a camera for her university department. It should be something easy to figure out intuitively: they are philosophers, not photographers. So, I'm thinking, Good quality, extreme high ISO not required, very high pixel count not required; minimal menus and sub-menus. They will be used to post to the web, and to post pictures on the bulletin board. They will be no more than 8.5 x 11. Something easy to use and handle, something smart, but non-photo-savvy PhDs can figure out without studying a manual. I'm thinking of Fujifilm, or Panasonic, or Canon (brands I know of); but one of you may know of something better. Price up to $200. It doesn't need to be tiny. Something big enough to hang onto would probably be better.

Look at the Canon PowerShot Elph 300HS. 12.1 megapixels, 24-120mm lens, simple to use, starts at around $170. Go to imaging-resource.com and read their review of it.

i think, all the p&s are quite similar. but from my own experience the canons have a good and simple user interface.

Any Canon towards the top of your pricelimit would be my suggestion. The do fairly well IMO. Set it to iAuto - or whatever it is called - and they don't have to fiddle with menus.

. . . and that's exactly what she bought, Andy, on your recommendation. She found it easy and intuitive to use. Not only that, it was on sale at Best Buy for just $140.00.
Thanks, Andy, and thanks to all who responded.

Awesome! Glad to be of help. I played with one of those in the store some time ago and realized that it's sort of like a PowerShot S100 'Lite'! A great little camera with an excellent sensor, all at a great price. Hope she has a lot of fun with it.
