Anyone have a DYI guide to lubricating my pancolar? I love the lens but find that it is not cost efficient to send one out for lube. Please let me know if i am incorrect about trying to do it myself or about the cost of sending the lens out.
Thanks in advance.

Just got my Jena Pancolar 50/1.8 w/Thorium glass back from Steve @ Camera Clinic in Mandan ND. The cost was $125 for a complete CLA, as the focus was quite stiff, the aperture blades a bit sticky, and he reinserted the stop down pin, which I messed up trying to clean the lens myself. Wonderful job and a quick turn around. I probably wouldn't have bothered if it had been a regular Pancolar, but because of the rarity of the Thorium glass, I felt it was worth the investment. Works great on my Pentacon Super in lieu of ever buying the 55/1.4 Pancolar!

I don't know why the Pancolar seem to suffer with stiff focus as they age...the cheaper 50mm Zeiss Tessars seem to never have that problem in my experience.

I made up an html page many years ago when I stripped an Exakta Pancolar. I've made a zip file of it and if you PM me your email address I will forward it to you. Hopefully you can ignore the parts about stripping the optics, which is rather difficult.

You need to use a light grease, and not too much of it, on both the helical and the focus-mount, or it will end up much too stiff.

Steve.
