Neutral Density Filters for B&W

I have decided to attempt some long exposure shooting with my M3 and Summicron and therefore will need to acquire a ND filter.
My confusion is that some filters are marked specifically B&W and others not. Do I need to get a ND filter marked as B&W or will any ND filter do the job?
Also, any advice regarding brands and general quality would be appreciated.

ND filters are not inherently for color or monochrome. B+W is an old and established brand of filters. I use them almost exclusively.

I am easily confused.
