New 50mm f1.1

I am returning mine-- while not as horrible as I initially thought, the lens has a critical flaw if you are using a RF-- the shape of the focusing cam does not allow for accurate focusing at all distances-- if you calibrate it close up, it is way off at a distance-- if you calibrate for mid to long distance, it is way off up close.

Mine does not do that at all, it's perfect at all distances.
It also focused perfectly out of the box with no need for any calibration changes.

If what I read here is true, the lens isn't for film.

The Nokton 1.1 it is.

It is fantastic on film, better than digital I think. I prefer it on film using my M7 (thread posted elsewhere on this forum) than on my M240.

I used the 50/1.1 again yesterday, and each image had a purple band at the edge of the image. I used a M 240 with this lens. I have been advised that a IR-cut filter is needed with this lens and the M 240 or the M8.

That would not work. I saw the same when I use it on my M240, which is why I really only use it now on film.
If you look at the rear elements of the lens, the glass by the lens mount, you will see it is actually a very narrow circle. My Nokton 1.1 is almost twice the size in comparison. It is because of this that you get purple edges and smearing - the digital sensor does not react well to the acute angles on the corners. In comparison my Nokton does not show any of these 'defects'.

I found it only noticeable in some images and only on the edges. So worst case scenario you can frame wider, and then crop it out. Or shoot in B&W..

Another question. It seems this lens has not so much of CA and purple fringing wide open.
I wonder it is is get corrected in PP or it is the nature of this lens?

It's the nature of the lens. I just checked my unedited images and there is a little purple and green fringing wide open, but less than with my Summilux 50 Asph or Summicrons.

Always interesting this thread...As I already said in post 287 it's an interesting lens but I must remember ...I do not need another lens, I do not need another lens, I do not need another lens...hmm well, if after winter holidays some money is left ...😀 i do not need but maybe...perhaps...🙂

Why am I seeing these with 52 and 55mm filter threads? Which is it lol!

Can anyone reccomend a good US seller? Thinking I want a chrome one..

I happen to have both the 7Artisans and the Nikkor 50 1.2 AIS....
I shot both side by side at 1.2 on my M just now as I am home waiting for UPS to show... Exposure is the same on both (I made sure), as is the LR white balance of 5000, -2. What is obvious is the 7Artisans has a warmer tone, and while it has some purple fringing, it does not have the green fringing that the Nikon does. Perhaps because it is warmer? Dunno...
Anyway, here they are, both shot at 1.2 with no corrections applied:

7Artisans 50 1.1:

Nikkor 50 1.2 AIS:

Nikkor 50 1.2 AIS:

Another thing that is very obvious is the bokeh is much better with the 7Artisans than the Nikkor 50 1.2 AIS. Just check out the shelf in the back.

7Artisans - $365.
Nikkor 50 1.2 AIS - $700

There is more blur, but better bokeh, I don´t think so. Would like to see more samples at slightly longer distances.

Definitely much better bokeh. Just looking at the pics u can see the Nikkor is jittery and nervous in comparison.

Thing is I am neutral in this as I own both lenses, and for the money I spent I'd have preferred the more expensive lens to be better.

I think I prefer a little jitter at 50mm. If I want "super smooth" I use a longer focal length. Maybe most would disagree with me though.

Then you'd love the Nokton 50 1.1
That lens does the jitter bug. But works great on my M5.

Nice to see what someone actually likes nervios bokeh 🙂. Sorry, "little jitter". First time I see this.
I feel so lucky now, I believe I'm going to see Yeti tomorrow, we are going to the forest on skis!

...7Artisans 50 1.1...
Hello, Huss.

Sorry if I missed it somewhere else but what lenshood are you using with the 7a? I bought a generic vented hood which seemed to have a very short depth but even so I still get corner cut-off on my M9-P.

Pip.

How was your trip?

I use a 55-58mm step up ring, then a generic 58mm lens hood. Works perfectly with no vignetting.
