Hi all, Last night I purchased a Canon L2 off of e-Bay that will need CLA'd. As this is to be a user and not a collector (non-standard "features"), I want a good job, but at a reasonable cost to me, the ol' champagne taste on a beer budget syndrome. 🙁 In other words, I want it done correctly the first time and have it last for years and years. Would anyone like to offer a suggestion or two or three as to whom I might contact regarding the CLA?

The next issue is the lens. Other threads suggest that the Jupiter J-3 is a good value with the original Canon 50mm f/1.8 as an alternate if I want to stay with Canon glass. Does anyone care to comment or make suggestions on that statement? 😕

If I decide to go the J-3 route (remember that I will be carrying this combo with me on a regular basis), what should I look for in a J-3 to enhance the odds of getting a good one?

The J-3 is notorious for not focussing correctly. If you find one that has good glass, you might like to get in touch with Brian Sweeney, who is a member here. There will be no such problems with a Canon 50/1.8.

Thanks

Thanks

Thank you for the intell. I did not catch that about the J3 in the other thread, just that some had issues. So it looks like Canon glass is the safest way to go?

The Canon 50mm f/1.8 is inexpensive relative to its quality--it is a solid, reliable workhorse. I can't compare it with the Jupiter, but it gives me results that I'm more than happy with. When I focused on the eyes, I got the eyes!

GREAT lens!

GREAT lens!

I totally agree. I bounced mine (attached to my IVS2b body) on the marble floor of a German train station one night and the impact didn't affect the camera or the lens. They made great photos before and after!
