I'm the last one that has any say in my schedule. Firm up the date and the details, and a few days before the date I should know if I can go or not.

I'm in. Well, I will need to switch with someone, but I am almost sure I can do that. Let me know if it is firm on the 25th. I always get lost in Boston
so I may just take the train. If you guys are carpooling from HFD, I can drive up there too.

We can get there and just hop on the T to move around the city. Should be pretty easy to get anywhere we need to go.

Hmmm an earlier post of mine is missing. Still on vaca. but 25/26 works for me too. I think that weekend is the festival of St. Anthony of Padova and there is food & events on Saturday and the procession on Sunday I think. Things begin around midday each day as I recall. It has it's own web site...

More specifically Joerg I'm assuming the North End in Boston on Saturday afternoon for the San Antonio Di Padova Feast!
Ray AFAIK there are no definite plans but here's a suggestion and further information for all so that we can discuss: that we meet at 1:00pm Saturday August 25 at a place to be determined. I don't know the North End at all so if someone has a favorite eatery/drinkery speak up now! We can have lunch then go shooting.
The St. Anthony's festival streets are Endicott, Thacher & North Margin, see the attached map below. They are all adjacent and fairly close to North Station, the North End is not difficult to find...
St. Anthony's Festival: http://www.stanthonysfeast.com/
Saturday's program: http://www.stanthonysfeast.com/2007Sat.html
Here' a subway map link and some information about how to use the MBTA to get to the North End:
MBTA map: http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/subway/
For those of you coming in from Connecticut it would be best to use the Massachusetts Turnpike and exit on Route 128/I95 South. Stay in the right lane on 128 south and I think it's the first exit (Grove St.) that takes you to the Riverside MBTA station. From Riverside you can get the Green line (D train) into Boston. Please note that the Green D line is undergoing a major reconstruction and is closed between Reservoir and Fenway stations. You need to get off the train at Reservoir and get a shuttle bus to Fenway. Inconvenient but only adds about 10 minutes to the trip. If the train you catch at Fenway terminates at Lechmere stay on it and get off at North Station. If it terminates at Government Center (likely) get off there, get an outbound Blue line train one stop to State, then hop on an Orange line train headed north to Oak Grove and hop off at North Station.
Those of you coming in from the north east would be well advised to drive to the Alewife MBTA station on Route 2 (direct connection from Route 128/I95 - take the Route 2 exit for Cambridge). Hop on a Red line train and change to the Orange line at Downtown Crossing. You need to get on a train headed north to Oak Grove and get off at North Station.
For those of you who haven't used the MBTA since last year the payment system of tokens has been replaced by an automated card reader system called the Charlie Card. The Charlie Card is a stored value smart card that is the cheapest way to get around on Boston's subway. Ask an MBTA official for your card then use a machine to add a dollar amount to the card using your credit card or cash. $10-15 will probably do you for the day. Each fare costs $1.70 with the card, $2.00 without one.
Anyone have a favorite eatery where we could meet for lunch?

Just saw this mentioned in the Boston Camera Store thread. I'm not sure what I or the family are doing, but I'll keep this thread bookmarked in case I could make it. It'd be fun to put some faces on some avatars!

Great! Lets see if we get any suggestions for where to meet and if not I'll go to the North End Monday or Tuesday night and find a place where we can meet.

Hi,
I could be available from 1:30 PM on Saturday.
Maybe we should meet for a coffee or so and then room the streets?
To start the count, who is joining?
Looking forward to seeing you again!

I unfortunately have to express my regrets for not being able to join you this weekend.
You may have noticed I have not been around a lot the past couple weeks. My father had surgery and I have been running around quite a bit helping out. He is fine, but my normal life has been on hold. The wife has changed her plans to be home next weekend to do some of the things that have been neglected recently, and I have to also.
I was really looking forward to the day, sorry I can't join you.

Ouch, hope things improve.
One possibility, now that the Central Artery no longer divides the North End from the Financial District, is Durgin Park (in the South Market building). Not a bad meal, and a photo venue in its own right.
My plans are still uncertain but I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Pizzeria Regina, 11 & 1/2 Thacher St., North End at 1:30 on Saturday!
Pizzeria Regina, 11 & 1/2 Thacher St., North End at 1:30 on Saturday!
Ralph I sorry to hear this I hope everything goes OK for you and your family. We'll miss you!
JNewell we've been planning for some time to take in a feast in the North End and we decided on this weekend and the festival of San Antonio Di Padova Da Montefalcione. See earlier posts in this thread. So here's a plan A and a plan B to meet for a bite & something to drink before we head out to shoot.
Plan A I know nothing about the North End but earlier tonight I was down there doing a bit of reconnaissance for a place to meet. I stumbled on what appears to be a bit of a legendary pizza place, its called Pizzeria Regina at 11 1/2 Thacher St. Let's meet there at 1:30pm on Saturday!
Here's how to get there from North Station: When you exit the station turn right go to the lights (Haverhill St./Causeway St.) and turn left on Causeway St. staying on the left side of the road. Look to the left and you will see the beautiful new Zakim Bridge. Walk up Causeway St. to Washington St. where there are traffic lights. Cross Causeway to the other side of the street then cross over Washington St. Walk down Endicott St. (Endicott runs off at an angle from the junction of Causeway & Washington). As you begin on Endicott look for Massimino's Cucina Italiana restaurant and cross over to that side of the road. Continue on Endicott until you get to Thacher St. and turn left on Thacher. Pizzeria Regina is on the left at the junction with N. Margin St. Total walk time <=10 mins.

Map (much better than the one I posted earlier): http://maps.google.com/maps?q=11+1/2+Thacher+St+Boston+MA+02113
Plan B Pizzeria Regina often has a line. If we decide we don't want to wait let's go to Ernesto's Pizza on Salem St. Another excellent place and probably quieter than Pizzeria Regina. You can see from the map below how close it is.

Comments/further suggestions? To be honest, anywhere in the North End would probably be a good place to eat, but these two do look good!
OK, who is coming?
