new Noctilux f/0,85 ?

I'm willing to bet that shareholder value matters to Mr. Kauffman [...] he'd better be in the game to make money...
Making money and shareholder value are not the same. Shareholders are interested in the value of the stock, and many of them don't care in the long-term well-being of the company; that's why you have this "quarter mentality" where it is difficult for a company to make long-term investments because these will show negatively on the company's bottom line for the given quarter. If you don't have to care about shareholders because nobody is holding any shares, you are much more free in your business decisions because you don't have to cater to the whims of a bunch of uninformed laymen interested in short-term windfall profits.

I think you will be proven right🙂 In limited edition too. But not sure what f-stop.

there will be the "Photokina 2008" in September, remember this thread afterwards and I think my informations I heard will come true. So, if you know something about it, it would be nice to read. And ....... it will cost more than we think now. A reason not to have GAS but to read about it.

If it's asphere, then size may be ok😉
A lens as fast as f/0.85 will have an even larger front element than the 50/1 potentially blocking more of the viewfinder. For this reason alone, I'm skeptical of something that fast being made by Leica. I'd expect a price of around $7000+ if such a beast were made, another reason I'm skeptical.

Ned: your mention of Noct Nikkor....

Ned: your mention of Noct Nikkor....

Ned,
Would you have a moment to give some more thoughts on your Noct Nikkor? It's just I already have one but also have the chance to buy a very nice example of a recent Leica f/1 Noctilux in a couple of days' time and would really welcome your expanding on the difference in character between the two... pictorially, even emotionally I mean because we know about the operating differences between rangefinders and SLRs.

Any views or pictures much appreciated, especially some pictures from the Noct Nikkor. At present I only have a few pictures of my own from this lens, but I am impressed by the way it handles bright light sources and by the way the background / horizon dissolves behind the point of focus. I prefer to use this lens for my own relaxation on an F3HP; on a couple of occasions I have shot some musical events with it on a D2X or D1X, but the fact it wasn't for my own project meant it didn't do a lot for me used that way (and was harder to focus on the digital cameras' screens).

By the way, your two boys and dogs shot taken with the 75mm Summilux is one of my all-time favourites: for me it is in the body language and expression of the young Alsatian/German shepherd dog.

Best wishes,
Tom
