Add to that the fact that the dp2Q body seems to have lost the traffic light focus signal on the top deck edge next to the hotshoe (which made it possible to confirm focus even in silent mode), and it gets even more depressing.
It looks as though the focus confirm light has been moved to the left side of the hot shoe, in the middle of the top plate. Fret not.

I see it now. That should work, perhaps favoring people who rely on the right eye.

If someone is using a dp2 Merrill now, what advantages will they see from using a dp2 Quattro?
I think they’ll see the classic Foveon look - very high detail and consistent detail. Low contrast, low contrast, low frequency, high frequency, everything is in its place. It’s a look we’re very proud of. But tonality is improved, both because of the higher resolution and also the 14-bit quantization. Those are key things and we’ve also made improvements to image processing too. We’ve tried to address everything important.

Thanks for that. Nice interview. I am surprised the raw files can be bigger then the Merrill ones. I guess it is due to moving from 12 bit to 14 bit raw support. So the size increase is due to the new digital processor and a lot more buffer memory. One stop faster on high iso and double the battery life. I still need to buy a second battery. 200 shots max not enough on some days.

An interesting comment from someone over at sigma rumors site about this interview. This is based on the mention that all sigma lenses are tested using a foveon sensor to produce the mtf results. So does that mean the sensor they use for their ff lenses are done w/ a ff foveon sensor? Is the sd2q going to be ff?

Summer release
Summer release
Here in this interview, the CEO says hopefully before summer, but I am betting summer since no one seems to be ready w/ their beta test comments yet.

Only dp1 lens formula changed for Quattro

So dp2 and 3 Quattro uses the same lens design as their Merrill counterparts. Sigma decided that the dp1 was not up to standards though. I guess for the higher density blue layer or decided in general it needed updating? Will be interesting to c what everyone thinks of the updated dp1 then.

Well, the DP1M gained its reputation as being the one Merrill DP that doesn't have complete corner-to-corner sharpness. So Sigma must be intent on addressing that issue. But really, it is a minor issue in many cases. I'd still MUCH rather see a wider angle.
I'm content to rest with what the Merrills offer and get my money out of these cameras. I've already used them way more than enough to pay for the equivalent in chromes, which is what I had been using for landscape before. I just bought a wide converter for the DP1M, and a closeup lens for the DP2M (useful when I don't take the DP3M).
Anyone heard of a release date? I'm interested in the DP1 this time.

No set date. Last interview comment from the sigma CEO was they were pushing to release before summer, but did not say which camera. Right now I am assuming dp2q..

Oh ok, so better to forget about these for awhile. Thanks Gary.

The best camera is one that still works!
Quattro quattro quattro ... just keeping the rage alive!
I think the new DPs will be very successful provided the IQ is as good as or better than the Merrills. Sigma have proven that if you give a camera something unique, and lets face it the looks of the Quattro are pretty out there, people will buy it even if it is less than ideal in areas that companies like Fuji seem to be concentrating on which is slick interfaces and fuss free handling for those who's favourite ice cream is vanilla.
Sigma are doing things their own way it seems and they should be applauded.
