New Sigma Quattro DP2?

there are pictures of people holding the camera but still having trouble visualizing how i could hold the grip and push the shutter button

I think there has to be a factory initiated special technique in how to hold the camera, something like the 21st century version of the Contax II grip.

It's much thinner than the DP*Ms. And while size is entirely subjectively, I don't see how this svelte body qualifies as something bulky enough to require "lugging".

Note that the weight of the DP2Q is on par with the DP2M.

I wonder if the next iteration will be called "DP Too Cute"? Perhaps a Japan-only model with a special Totoro mode :p

It's not the weight, it's the awkwardness.

Just wait until you want to take a vertical portrait, then the awkwardness of the camera will be fully realized.

Again, I still love the design. And I want one. But I'll wait until sample shots roll in. If the BW tonal gradations and low light capabilities are as good as I'm hoping they are, it'll be hard to pass up.

Man that lens hood is huge to me.. I would have loved to have seen the inverted lens hood style like on the vc 40f2 pancake.

Actually, my question had nothing to do with the external VF.

I'd like to know what purpose other than aesthetic vents on the lens hood could serve?

What I meant was the hood might intrude into the OVF FOV, in which case the vents would be important. With the OVF being so close to the lens I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case with the 19mm, if not the 30.

Besides, you could always flip the question the other way - why have a hood with extra metal?

Fascinating study, I wondered too, did the extra space hold special features like quad-core image processing or something..

I have never used a hood on the DP*Ms, so I cannot say for sure, but I've never read any comments talking about VF blockage. If that happens on the dpq, I'd say that's a huge design flaw. But my guess is that it doesn't occur, and the vents are there simply because someone in marketing thought they were associated in the consumer-target's mind with some value-added quality.

A hood serves one main purpose: to block stray light; and one secondary purpose: to protect the outer lens element. Vents are unnecessary to the second and can potentially have an admittedly rare effect on the first. Why add 'em if you don't need to? Anyway, it's not a big deal and I'm sure won't affect IQ.

I wouldn't want the hoods anyway. I think they are ugly and big, and probably expensive, so I'd go without or use cheap, functional substitutes instead.

The camera looks ok to hold, but wouldn't it be nice to have a shutter button (or even a user-assignable function button) roughly under the index finger spot on the grip?

All the Quattro needs now is a trip to the Hasselblad boys and girls to add some tasty woodgrain trim.

NOT !!!

It's beautiful as it is and nicely reflects Sigma's rather unusual approach IMO.
