New Sigma Quattro DP2?

They are using the bp-21 battery on the new sigma --> Same as the sd1m. So I wonder if they are going to announce a sd1q then.

Not going to get a dp1 or 3 Quattro, just the dp2q. Will wait to c if they go sd1q next or a csc.

Gary, where did u see the BP-21?
The Sigma page mentions a new model number for the battery, the BP-51.

I'm disappointed there is nothing wider than 28 efov.

Your right bp51. I miss read :(. Oh well yet another battery to add to my collection :(

Thanks for link... Yeah I found the diagram in the technology section... The Quattro must represent the 4 pixel blue layer.. So instead of the traditional 3 x number, it is as u say, 20 plus 4.9 plus 4.9. This should improve high iso capability.. Now I understand why cnet and forbes are saying 20mp.

Ok .. Pre-order dp2q --> Fuji xt1 (not) --> wait for xp2 for sure now :)

Gary

Hmmm...so better resolution in the absolute sense, but loss of very fine detail in the red and green channel?

High iso should improve, so should buffering time, since only one layer is read at full resolution.

Yeah.. Loss of fine detail in the green and red band only holds true if there is absolutely no blue in the mix at that photo site location.. Odds are pretty slim in real life.

Check out the new aspect ratios. Everything from 20:9 to 1:1. What uses 20:9? I guess this is their pano mode.

Also there is a new JPEG called super high.. Looks like it creates the equiv of a 35mp... Hmmmm.

Whoa ... just got home from work and saw this!

My favourite camera company ... I think it looks brilliant. :)

I did a size comparison based off the hot shoe.

Seems like a wide camera, hard to say at this stage how comfortable the grip is, but could be nice. Curious as to why the lens is thicker than the DP2?

Thanks for the visual. I was looking at the numbers for the dimensions, but the visual always helps.

It is about the same height. About 4cm (2") longer, and thinner (not including the grip protrusion).

I think the dimensions still fit inside the Ortlieb waterproof pouch that I lash onto my hipbelt for backpacking.

If you look at the sensor plane indicator it becomes obvious why the camera looks so radically different to it's predecessor.

Now when you start discarding Merrils please let me know :D

In some ways this pleases me because it now means there is little point in selling my DPMs ... they won't be worth much at all!

In spite of lashing out on the SD1M I truly love those little cameras ... they were the foveon gateway drug for me! :D

Sigma gets interesting again for me. I liked the original DP1 but the Merrills (while providing better image quality) were a step back in design and handling. The Quattro looks different and that can be a good thing. The simple manual focus (zone focus) implementation of the first generation still seems to be lacking, but the AF controls at least look interesting.

I am most likely in the market for the wide-angle version. If the JPEG engine is good, the 20:9 mode may be the closest thing to a panoramic digital that I have been waiting for. For that use, the normal-lens version might make some sense, too. That's how bad the market is in panorama land. :D
