[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

I have received an email from DHL this morning!

I am looking forward to the DHL delivery this month.

I own many really good lenses, but this one is special to me. We all witnessed the birth of this project, followed by the massaging of details and cosmetics and performance checking.

Shipping Shanghai ---> S. Florida via DHL only took 3-4 days for me.

With this replica, and the fine Voigtlander/Cosina alternatives, Leica really needs to up their game, and, ha, ha, drop their prices. We really are fortunate to have these alternatives. Well worth the wait.

Just developed a third roll. Really impressed by the resolution of this lens. I understand now why the original 8-element is held in such high esteem by some.

DHL now expects longer delivery times. Maybe things have changed.

Raid, I received packages last week via DHL from Japan in 3 days...

Japan is not China. It is not the geography but the politics that are different.
Not so in my case. I will post here when I get the lens from DHL.

-------------

SH KZ BUILDING DECORATION ENGINEERING CO is on its way.

Well Raid, politics aside, Steve York, who's also in Florida told you he got his in 3 or 4 days... & that was just a few weeks ago. In North America my experience (during Covid times) is that the courier services like Fedex & DHL have been very prompt, while govt postal services & customs have been somewhat slower.

I simply mean to say that there is nothing that I can do about expediting DHL delivery. They say it will be at the end of the month.

Raid, Companies quoting longer times is the standard disclaimer all companies are issuing in these times. For example, Fedex is saying that their service is no longer 'guaranteed.'
The realtime information is tracking the individual package.

I agree with you on this. Maybe I will get the lens very soon then.

It's never the courier I fear for delays, it's the customs delays here. DHL are pretty good at clearing stuff, but Parcelforce (which as a subsidiary of the Royal Mail gets virtually all global Post office imports) can take weeks.

There is no USA import duty for camera lenses as long as the correct harmonized code is used on the customs documents.

9002.11 harmonized code is the proper one.

They shouldn't have charged you duty, if it shipped to the US. Must have used the incorrect harmonized code. UPS will typically charge a brokerage fee, but not USPS.
