[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

You're NOT getting that from a Leica lens
Actually..most Leica lenses are actually available..for sale..right now..

As with most manufacturers..
LLL.. is not..
Except if you are a dealer..
Or willing to wait a long long...time....if ever receiving it at all..
Or pay a lot more..from that dealer..

Brass finish lenses..
Where are they?

Vaperware..
Promises not kept..
But that said..

I would not have said a word about this and waited patiently..for a year or 2 or even more for this..
But when I heard a dealer was scalping them for enlarged prices in Canada..and other dealers scalping on Ebay..
And of a 2nd edition to boot..
Before we received our promised lenses..

That really was the final straw..

The lens is on it's way to me and is, to my knowledge, already in my country. Weird "vaporware" that.

Also you basically addressed none of my points and are instead continuing to viciously beat various straw-men you make up. Look, I understand your frustration if you somehow got on late, or feel you have been short-changed - but it comes off as incredibly entitled.

Again I worked in product dev for a good decade, I know what it's like in the "trenches" and it's a miracle we got anything at all! On budget too! We were asked 500 bucks and got a lens - again that's a ~3000 dollar value for 500 bucks!

Also I repair Leica lenses and let me assure you there's almost no brass in those modern optical marvels. In fact fan-favourites such as the v4 Summicron 35mm are made from materials that are... less ... optimal inside.

But that's a derail and I don't feel I have anything more to add so I'll just shut up now.

If you want the lens sooner why don’t you just buy one from one of the other dealers selling V2LC versions at a higher (albeit still quite reasonable imo) price? You’ve paid nothing to put your name on the waiting list for a V1LC so you’ve lost absolutely nothing so far. Buy a V2LC, continue to wait for your V1LC and buy that one too if you can swing it. Then you can sell either that one or the V2LC once you’ve got both and likely come out even if not slightly ahead financially. No reason to be salty when you haven’t been asked to make a financial commitment.

Edited to add: as mentioned earlier, I purchased a V2LC from another dealer based in HK (Wen from SH Cameras) because I didn’t catch wind of this project until late June this year. I paid probably 40% more than the price offered to the folks here who got in on the offer for V1LC, but I wouldn’t say I feel the price I paid is too high. In fact, I’d say the intro price for V1LC is an incredible deal, and that the lens is easily worth well more... it’s even a great value at the price I paid. So considering you weren’t asked to make any sort of deposit or down payment to “lock in” the intro price, I see very little reason to continue complaining and painting a bad picture of Mr. Zhou for the way he has decided to conduct his business. Without selling lenses at higher prices, he likely would not have the capital to continue a project such as this to even be able to offer these lenses at such a low price.

I take you were offered another version of the lens, or to wait - I know because that is what happened with me.

So you chose to stick with your brass version, for reasons which clearly have nothing to do with picture taking because they all take the same pictures. But that's fine.

But then you decide to cry about it here? I'm sorry?

You CHOSE to wait and then you complain that you have to wait when you were given the option of NOT waiting and taking a brass/silver version instead.

Am I wrong here?!

Emile, after you finally get your brass lens and its amazingly high quality for an equally amazing low price leaves you speechless, are you going to apologize???

in my opinion; this project is WAY BETTER than bunch of bs Kickstarter projects, where people PAID money in advance and knows nothing when their products are delivered.
In contrast this replica project, we PAID NOTHING in advance, rather than just DARE to fill in the form which is totally not a bind contract, because eventually, you will be asked again if you still want it when it's available to be shipped.

I repeat again, this replica project ROCKS.

Thank you all the team, and Kevin also.

Cause I dont want to..hows that..lol

Fair enough. That’s your prerogative. That being said, given you opt to forego obtaining the lens sooner when you certainly have the option to and otherwise haven sacrificed nothing to place yourself on a wait list for the V1LC, you should not continue to express anguish about having to wait for your copy and simultaneously disparage the maker of the lens you wish to purchase. Save your money and wait patiently or pay a bit more to enjoy the lens sooner. Beggars can’t be choosers.

On the contrary, I think the new range of 500xxx serial numbers that have appeared recently alongside the xxx/500 serial numbers from the initial 500 V1 batch, which are are already approaching 500 (e.g. 494/500 above), tells us that LLL has pretty much completed the supposed initial batch of 500 V1 lenses. Does that mean they've completed the initial round of domestic, RFF, and other orders? Nope. They probably got considerably more than 500 orders. So... new serial number range.

I don't know if all lenses from the first batch are all sent.

Thanks for the heads-up Kevin.

In your signature part, you have stated your PM box is full so one must send emails to the Gmail address, and it's what I have been doing.

Fully understanding that you are busy and without wanting to waste your time, all of my emails are concise, but contain some important information such as the address modification and questions such as the possibility to have the lens shipped to an address in China (of a good friend of mine who started to work for a Spanish company in Shanghai). I had considered those things as personal thus unsuitable to be published in the thread, fearing to bother other forum members.

It is a bit unfortunate that you can't reply emails. I still hope before ordering the lens and finalising payment, we can somehow have some message exchanges via email.

Best Regards

Kevin,
I also sent a follow up email regarding address and phone number for shipping. When I originally saw your email I didn’t scroll down and see the lens and rest of email. Looking forward to receiving the lens and will post images and samples when I get it. Thanks!

Yeah I saw it and already shipped out the package this Friday. You will receive the lens very soon. I am sorry that I forgot to let you know.

I do not envy you, Kevin. You seem to be extremely busy with it all. Thanks for sending my my lens. I am a happy buyer and owner.

Received my lens today. It’s really marvelously made especially considering the price. Packaging, lens caps etc are also excellent. Will post some photos in a bit! Thanks again Kevin. Such a cool project
