New Year's Resolution: This year, it's FILM

Seriously, though:

1. Work through my backlog of film developing.

2. Make some prints that I am proud of.

3. Bring more direction and purpose into my photography.

I could think of much more, but that's probably enough to be getting on with for a good while.

produce darkroom prints equal or better to my inkjet prints (no small ambition, as I haven't wet printed for 30 yrs, and back then I can't ever remember producing a print I was really happy with). Keep improving both!

My resolution is to get my image-making self out this little box that it hides in.

I want just one really stunning (for some reason) print of something that I never saw before.

I also resolve not to buy any new equipment until 2014.

Take out my rebuilt Yashica 124G and actually shoot the silly thing rather than just playing with it and then putting it back on the shelf.

Develop and maybe even wet print all my own film, it's been a while so I expect some disasters.

Sell off or all the camera gear I don't actually use.

Happy New Year folks 🙂

Making a resolution to shoot more film is all very well but it's not really the solution IMO. We need to stop banging on here about what we should be doing regarding our chosen medium and just get out and take more photographs.

I'm not claiming innocence here by the way! 😱

2. Put an end, once and for all, to the internet myths surrounding the Pentax 6x7 and Hasselblad 501CM. RE: Neither can be hand held successfully. Both are loud enough to scare babies and old women.

Wayne

I'm so glad I never bought into that myth before getting my 6x7. I ended up shooting hand held something like 99% of the time. Used it for portraits, sports, candids, low light...what a lovely beast of a camera.

My 6x7 set

1) Survive work hours.
2) Set up a darkroom and start printing (ie insulate the garage, segment part of it to be at least somewhat light proof).
3) Restore order. I went on a camera repair education frenzy a two years ago and have way too many parts cameras around.
4) Figure out what my go to fast 50 is. Its dark here for a good chunk of the year. I like small lenses. I'd love a 1.4 or 1.5 lens which I could use as my walk around lens when light is lower. I love the VC 1.1 but its huge and reserved for night shooting. I've survived with Canon 1.4s but am not totally thrilled with them as I know more modern lenses would suit me better. I need to figure out what and be happy.
