New Year's Resolution: This year, it's FILM

I'm so glad I never bought into that myth before getting my 6x7. I ended up shooting hand held something like 99% of the time. Used it for portraits, sports, candids, low light...what a lovely beast of a camera.

My 6x7 set

Right on! I bought my first Pentax Beast in 1973-4-5, long before Al Gore invented the internet. Back then I knew nothing. I'm going back to knowing nothing.
Point and shoot is where it's at, Baby!

Making a resolution to shoot more film is all very well but it's not really the solution IMO. We need to stop banging on here about what we should be doing regarding our chosen medium and just get out and take more photographs.

I'm not claiming innocence here by the way! 😱

Ha! Well I'm with you on this one . . . Still, I find a nice juicy public proclamation useful as a way to motivate myself. Maybe I need an RFF ping once a month, "Hey, Ben! Where's the bloody photo you promised us?" 4x5 . . . that's the ticket.

Edit: Keith: I have a nice Tech IV, which I basically use as a box camera. Lovely robust thing. Never got any of the cams or the RF sorted out though . . .

Ah, interesting topic. 2014:

- less internet, more 'out there' shooting.
- sell shelf stuff (already sold two items today: a filter and an ext viewfinder)
- print more, in larger sizes.
- embrace the rain.

Building up my darkroom to do my own prints and maybe buy a new scanner for 120 and sheet film - the old Epson 1240 is at the end of his life!

Yes - now more cam to buy and maybe sell some of these I have.
I found that I have all the cams I need/want, and there will be no sense in buying another one!

Maybe using the NEX a bit more, as I did this year nearly complete with film 😀

I´m at the end of my first year with all film photography. I sold all my digital gear in april and have not looked back!

Awesome! Doesn't it feel great!

Now we are out of the digital upgrade rat race, and have joined the "looking for the perfect old camera" search!

To print more photos. I have had a year of scanning Tri-X negatives and just started printing again. This time with inkjet instead of wet printing, which is a passion of mine, but I have no room for a darkroom right now. A week into it and I have been stunned by the quality of the results. I am now a convert instead of a doubter ! I have been lucky to hit on a good choice of paper that pleases me and looks like a "real" photo from the get go. Cant wait to do more !

To set up a dedicated darkroom. The new enlarger I bought is too tall for my current basement space. I have a storage room I can convert ; I am starting that process.

If you feel you need it on film, you'll take it on film. If you need it on film, you'll develop it, instead of keeping it undeveloped.
Without useless resolutions.

You could make nearly the same statement about every New Year's resolution. This is the time of year when it's traditional to think about what you'd like to do more or accomplish in the next year. If that involves film or photography, how is that any worse than any resolution?

Put down the digital and pick up the M3, Retina IIa, QL17 and the SRT101. Shoot TRI-X, Delta 100 and HP5. Shoot more "artsy" pictures, portraits and evocative landscapes. Continue to explore the world of fine red wines, craft beers and coffees. It is going to be a good year.
