I've acquired a Zorki 4K, on removing lens the RF cam is not tensioned. Is this a user 'fixable' problem? I've done a search but can't seem to find anything specific, I've also read wolves3012 excellent CLA tutorial and intend to try it but thought I'd ask about RF cam tension first.

Welcome to RFF Kodachrome. You may find a full CLA will cure the problem as it may be gummed up with old oil. I supose there is achance the spring has broken but it may be worth starting a CLA to find out whats going on under the top plate.

Good luck

Chris

Welcome to RFF, Kodachrome. Sometimes, when the lens is off, there is a certain amount of play in the RF sensor, though it's not supposed to be totally slack. If it is, then the spring is either broken or has come adrift. If there's just some play then check out the RF accuracy first before assuming a problem. It may need adjustment or it may be fine as it is.

Thanks for welcome and replies. wolves3012 - I'm pretty sure it's a broken spring, it's a full travel front to back movement with no resistance, if so is this spring within the shutter box or under the top plate? - are springs available anywhere?

From memory, you'll have to take RF mechanism apart. I've probably got a spare spring for one of these if you're stuck. I took a parts 4K to bits a while back and kept all the stuff like that! Don't assume it's broken until you take a look, it may just be displaced. You'll need to pop the top cover off to get at it...not hard to do but if you use my CLA guide please heed the part about the winder-spring!
