Nikon DF

I think the body still looks relatively slim...*relatively*. Looks at his hands, look at the lens mount up front.

Also, nobody has mentioned the final trick up Nikon's sleeve...the "Hybrid" part...the manual focus implementation. Remember, everyone thought the X100 was all fluff until they saw/experienced the hybrid finder. It's key to the flexibility of the camera.

So...now that the fashionistas have had their say about what they like or don't about her silhouette...let's wait to find out if she can cook 🙂

I think it's going to look like a film camera like a FM But! all digital inside, there's no going
around the bush, it's digital thru and thru. Their going to tease us all but the bottom
line it's a digital camera.

So you describe what's different and then say it's the same? It's got the D4 sensor supposedly, so we need to compare it to that camera... doesn't look the same to me. Also, why offend people who prefer a shutter speed dial by saying it's marketing? Perhaps it's something we like... if I buy this, it will not be because Nikon tricked me, it'll be because they finally made something that feels better than the DSLR blobs we've had for the last 10 years.

How did I offend people who like the shutter speed dial on the top? and of course it marketing hype pure photography yeah right.

Okay, I'll be really stupid here, but doesn't anyone notice what looks an awful lot like a film rewind crank in this picture? We're all thinking digital, but what if DF (digital fusion) is actually taking the advances that Nikon has made with their digital cameras (in matrix metering, electronic shutters, etc., etc.) and put them into a smallish film body, reminiscent of the old F bodies?

Just a thought.

Best,
-Tim

I noticed that too - hmm, maybe that's the 'hybrid'! A film AND digital camera! Yes yes, truly dreaming.....

These threads are strange ... you get a bunch of people happily chatting and surmising what a camera may be based on snippets of information ... and another group who just turn up to try and spoil the fun.

It's becoming a bit of an RFF signature!

Well, I was offended. You are making it seem as though people who would be interested in this camera are fooled by marketing. Is that not what you meant?

Maybe the "rewind crank" on the left is just an analog (clicky) version of what Nikon usually puts there...quick access to ISO, etc.

As far as a film/digital hybrid...dream on! I'll eat my hat! 😀

It's fun to speculate...I can't imagine anyone would get bent out of shape by just shooting the sh*t.

D4 sensor w no AA in a smaller and cheaper package

why do people prefer a D4 sensor over the others? is it the impression that lower MP will have better IQ? on DXOmark (not gospel but the most scientific comparison we have) http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Comp...rand2)/Nikon/(appareil3)/767|0/(brand3)/Nikon it seems like the D4 sensor is the worst of the 3 Nikon FFs

from initial impressions it looks like a shutter speed dial but with all the same Nikon buttons at the back, probably not pure enough for some of our forum 😉 ... i'm not seeing an aperture ring in the photo or am i missing something?

"everywhere there is rumours or the rumour of rumours" ... is almost a quote from someone

You know, a couple of years ago there was a big hub-bub about a Nikon patent, a digital back that would fit on a film camera. Maybe this hybrid camera is the answer to that. A new film camera body that has all the electronics in it of the more advance digital cameras, but also has a back that can be removed and replaced with a digital back.

Just sayin' (Or maybe, just dreamin')

Best,
-Tim

because beyond dxo mark, the D4 has the best IQ of any previous nikon ever, the D3s being close second and slightly better at hi iso

It seems to not have a LCD top display. Do you think one must read aperture from the LCD screen? Maybe something like the Leica S2 with a small screen for the aperture?

According to the rumored specs it's supposed to be about the same size of the F3, but it looks kinda big, and long.

Nikon's tease is much more artfully presented than Leica's tease was.

Lessee:
- already have an M9
- just bought an E-M1

That says "no need for another camera." But

- have five nice lenses in Nikon F mount
- eh, it could be really cool

That says "i have the option to spend more money if i please."

Life is full of choices. ;-)

What did you expect? It's a digital Nikon from 2013. Did you really think you were going to get a mechanical camera with a sensor?

Just expecting what we were led to expect with the originam FM2 rumor, which morphed into an f3 rumor, which morphed into an just another Nikon DSLR.

Again, let's wait until Nov 5.
