Nikon DF

I hope they don't do a special edition ala Leica

If they wanted to bring out a limited edition I'd be OK with that as long as the base model is reasonably priced.

A boxed chrome limited edition wouldn't bother me if it was a couple of grand dearer ... because I wouldn't be buying it! 😀

So this is just a dslr with a speed dial and maybe a screen suitable for manual focussing?
Be neat if it has an ISO dial (but inconvenient when you change the ISO so frequently) and I guess the new 50 will have an aperture ring and silent wave focus.

Wouldn't be the first time I was called a Luddite. Who knows maybe it will be retro enough to have an RD1 sort of following.

I think the RD-1 has a (deserved) unique place in history ... much more so than the M series digicams.

A full frame sensor in the old girl and you'd never need any other digital camera. 😀

I always thought the R-D1 was a cool concept, then I tried to work with one. I didn't get on with it at all. The M9 is far more to my liking in terms of ergonomics and use.

I look forward to seeing the new Nikon. Just another couple of days.

How about a ISO dial with an Auto option , like the shutter speed Auto option?

Spot on. Well, I'd also like a DSLR in FF just to balance things out and use my reflex lenses on too.
Best of both worlds.😀

Well the new Nikon looks somewhat like my old Sony a850. If you don't mind a mirror it is a truly simple camera with no frills, amazing image quality in body IS and all kinds of cheap primes that will work on it for a fraction of the cost of the Nikon.
I will always have a soft spot for it.
I agree if Olympus made a full frame E-M1 I would be all over it and not shoot anything else.

Some facts.

A mechanical switch for AF control is found on the back all higher-end Nikon DSLRs.

Changing ISO on the D700 requires holding a button and turning a control wheel. This is straight forward and is no less convenient than than mechanical ISO knobs I've used on film cameras.
