i have a 50 Summicron with built in hood from 2003. the focus ring stops dead at infinity but going the other way it goes a tad bit past the closest focus marked. is this normal? focus is smooth and most photos seem in focus but some seem to be back focused just a tad. example: i took a head shot yesterday at about 6 feet away and focused on her teeth. At f5.6 the teeth were in focus but the nose was not. normally i get 1/3rd the DOF in front of where i focused (as i should) but this all seemed behind as the rest of her was is sharp focus. thoughts?

i haven't noticed this on my cron 50 (nor a previous one), but it's not super uncommon on other lenses. i think my lux 35 asph turns a bit past 1.4. don't worry ... as long as it works ...

Some lenses will close-focus past the point where the rangefinder coupling stops moving (the close-focus limit for the lens is closer than the close-focus limit for the body). The CV 21/4 is one such - my M body will adjust the focusing mechanism down to about 0.7m, but the lens will keep going down to 0.5m. Perhaps your lens is behaving similarly.

I'd do a careful test with the camera on a tripod, and a focus target at a precisely-measured 0.7m from the focal plane of the camera. Set the lens focus to 0.7m and see if the rangefinder images align. If they don't you need to have the rangefinder adjusted (or you might be able to do it yourself).
