not getting the x100...

I have been waiting for a digital camera like this for a long time. Yes I am getting one and it is driving me crazy that my local shop cannot give me even an estimate on a delivery. I am sure the disasters in Japan are not going to help.

Dedicated shutter speed dial, aperture ring, integrated optical VF, built in EVF, f/2 35mm lens, etc

I'm glad people are cancelling their pre-orders. Hopefully I'll move up the chain.
 
I handled the X100 at PhotoKina last year. The cameras on display were not fully functional but gave you the experience of the optical/EVF. Very easy on the eyes, even with my bifocals.

If the price were $500-$600 I would get one, but at $1200, it's too much for a fixed-lens camera with a non-full sized sensor, IMO.

Also, for me, the lens is not wide enough.

I think the excitement will cool down a bit once the cameras hit the market.

It's funny, since the X100 announcement, I've tuck-tailed and run the complete opposite direction. Just bought a IIIf and about to get a Rollei TLR. There's just something about loading film into a camera and developing yourself I can't shake.

When you put the X-100 in your hands and up to your eye it is not the "rangefinder experience" that I had expected. It is an elegant digital point and shoot, sort of like a digital Contax G with a fixed 35mm lens.

Thank you, Gary, for reaffirming my initial reaction to the X-100.

Pardon me while I grab my CLE and do some shooting.
 
I bought the M9, came this week. I love it.

If I get an X-100, it will also be by selling some classic gear. I have a lot of classic gear. But- will do what I did with the M9, let other early adopters sort out features before picking one up.
 
I was on a list, but I pulled out recently. I think it's a great camera, and I eventually want one, but right now, I don't need a new toy. I've got my hands full with my MFT camera and my film cameras. I've always primarily been a film guy, and right now I'm enjoying shooting with my film RFs more than ever. I've got more than enough to occupy my time.

It's funny, it's like they pre-launched it a couple of months too early. Had they announced it and shipped it in a month or two they would have killed... but then I guess they wanted to preempt the competition by being first... except there wasn't and still isn't any competition.

Disaster aside, it's like Thom Hogan has been saying, the camera companies are tone-deaf to what serious photographers want. There should have been a dozen cameras in this category by now, they should have introduced serious APS-C compacts years ago.

I'll eventually get one or one of the others that are similar. They missed their opportunity though, you can't expect people to wait around six months and not get distracted.

Camera companies do not make money on serious photographers. It is the "everyman" that drives most of the industry.
 
I've just blown my money on a Pentax K5. It looks like it will be several months before the local shop will be able to get stock of the X100, which will be plenty of time for Fuji to sort out any early problems, and for me to replenish the camera fund. 🙂
 
Here in Malaysia, the GF1/20 is available for less than half (RM1800) of the X100's estimated price (RM3900). I ask myself if a fancy hybrid viewfinder and a slightly larger sensor is really worth the extra?

Also, my M9 with a Minolta 40/2 or CV28/3.5 is not much bigger than an X100.

I think this is a question that many of us have asked, and we can really only answer it for ourselves by handling the actual camera.
