Bit off topic here, but an interesting question whether Leica can survive a worldwide recession.
Exactly. I don't imagine most of the people buying Leica's are people who worry about losing their jobs. It's a luxury good. That some people scrimp and save to get one doesn't imply the majority of their user base does.
They have before, and they have before with other very expensive products besides the Ms, none of which probably ever made much money for them.
I still do not see the logic behind introducing the S2 when FF 35mm DSLRs are already approaching that level of quality without having to buy a whole new set of lenses.
Of course I am a dumb, broke, photographer, what do I know 😀
It's a luxury good.
It will be for some, not for other's. A better question is whether it is better for you. Why worry if someone else thinks it is worth the extra bit?
Is a used 35mm Skopar worth half the price of a new 35mm SKopar PII ?
Same question, different budgets. Tough to answer as in the end it is really about the relative value each of us put on money.
But let's imagine we talk about the median salary of a Western economy, the answer is probably "no". I am not sure though that M8 owners are in the median salary ...
