We have a holiday month with the 4th of July. Let's have the next Meet-Up on Sunday July 28th at Puck Fair.

Happy shooting everyone.

Come back uptown!

Keith,

When are you going to pick up the 12 inch row-tour-ee cutter? PM me to hook up.

I'm getting squeezed again. Now I'm loosing the free storage that came with my apartment, and I got to clear out some of my stuff.

Come back uptown!

Last time was a bust and the place got super crowded. I like Harlem Public... like the food and beer, but for a meet-up it was too tight the second time around. Any other places up there as a back-up?

Keith,

John is right. Harlem Public is now very popular and gets mucho crowded. Only a few people showed up and it ended up being lucky that it turned out that way. I'm game for having Meet-Ups uptown, but already we kinda outgrew Harlem Public.

Cal

Well I liked Harlem public as well but the lack of seating or actually the arrangement of the seats is a problem. Maybe now that the NBA season is over it might get less crowded

I had a great time meeting all you guys at Puck fair this past Sunday, Hope to make
it down again, so far the 28th sounds good.

Sunday July 28th at Puck Fair sounds good. Harlem Public doesn't seem quite right for a group meet-up. Seating, noise, etc. Any other ideas for an upper west side location sometime in the future?

Plenty of places up in the UWS... I can figure that out if we want to do a meet-up up there one day.

UWS is a good idea. Lots of places by Morningside Heights and Columbia.

GEAR ALERT: 1980 black MD-2 overhauled by Sherry. Waiting for funds to clear to purchase a 21/3.4 Super Elmar. Bought back my black TA Rapidwinder from Fidel. Bought a matte black TA Rapidgrip from Jean-Marc. Already own a 21mm Zeiss VF'er. Hoping to have this rig all together by the next Meet-Up. Go ultra-wide. This rig should look pretty evil.

ohhhh, I hope you'll have your Super Elmar by 7/28. I'd love to see it. I'll bring the 1950s Simmons Bros Omega 120 camera. It's been called one of the ugliest cameras ever produced, but I think it's pretty neat.

Jean-Marc,

I definitely will have the 21/3.4 Super Elmar by the next Meet-Up, but the only "Q" factor is getting my MD-2 back by then.

The MD-2 is one of the rare Canadian versions. Only about 3K MD-2's were ever made and only about 1K were Canadian. Mine came with the box. Since the MD-2 has the steel gears of a M4-2, it has the drive-shaft to acommodate a Rapidwinder.

My intention is to cut some teeth with the 21mm FOV. The Plaubel 69W with the 47/5.6 is also a 21mm FOV, but with only 8 shots per roll of 120 its pretty hard to blast away. In the past I shot a lot with a Nikon 24/2.0 AIS on a Nikon F3, even though it made mucho distortion. The Super Elmar has some great reviews. Just a tad smaller than my 28 Cron with a nasty rectangular hood.

21-50 is a nice spread when I carry two Leicas, and so is 21-28 or 21-35. Anyways I like carrying two cameras and avoiding any lens changing.

Should be a really cool rig -- your MD-2 with the SE and the TA RWII. Please bring the SE to the RFF meet, with or without the MD-2!! The Monochrom and the Super Elmar are my only true temptations from Leica.

Jean-Marc,

The 28mm FOV in my shooting is heavily favored, but know that a 21mm is about a third wider, but if shot vertically the frame width is basically the same as when I shoot a 28 in landscape/horizontal mode.

Generally I shoot to print full frame and I do not favor cropping, but with a 21mm I can see me shooting mucho verticals and cropping to either 6x7 or even 6x6 for perspective control. In effect I might be using my Monochrom to shoot the square. Who needs a Rolliewide?

Also know that I have a 45/4.0 to shoot on my Pentax 67II for that 24mm FOV on 6x7.

UPDATE: Sherry personally delivered the MD-2 in NYC Saturday. Finally mounted the TA Rapidwinder that I bought back from Fidel. Added the TA Rapidgrip from Jean-Marc. Now all I'm waiting for is for the money to be settled on my consignment and I'll order the 21/3.4 Super Elmar. The Zeiss VF'er looks boss.

Basically I'm building an ultimate point and shoot.

Cal

Congrats on getting that together!

I thought about a similar kit back when I saw a MD-2 at B&H, also with the box. I wonder if it's the same camera?

Looking forward to a "camera porn" shot of your rig. Those Zeiss viewfinders are super bright!

Ivan,

It is the same camera with the box. I later jammed it and then sent it off to Sherry to get overhauled. Now it is factory fresh. It is a Canadian version. Only 3K MD-2's were ever made and of those 3K only 1K were Canadian.

Although remarkably very clean, I suspect that it was a copy stand camera. The heavy use it saw now is kinda moot after a visit to Sherry.
