Bob,
Those cheap adapters basically always need shimming. I use 0.05mm copper tape. It sticks in place nicely, and can easily be stacked to the right hight and trimmed to fit.
Christian,
I remembered that I have mucho high strength shim material that is called "Havar." It is the same material that watch springs are made of and it has an incredable stength to weight ratio.
On my Cyclotron in my lab we use thin foils to isolate vacuum from targets, a jet of refrigerated Helium cools the foil so we don't burn a hole throuh it with a proton or deuteron beam while atomically transmutating materials to make them radioactive.
The following thicknesses are available: 0.0015; 0.00025; 0.0005; 0.000125; and 0.00095.
GEAR ALERT: I just bought a 50 R Lux known as an "E60" to use on my SL2-MOT. This is the last R 50 that only comes as a ROM version that will not mount on my SL2 unless I convert it to 3-Cam which is what I am currently doing. This is a rare lens, and only 2700 were ever made. Very highly rated and reguarded. Many people convert this lens with a Leitax adapter for use on Nikon, Canon, and Pentax DSLR's, so I kinda justified this purchase as not so crazy knowing that this lens could be easily used on my SL2-MOT, F3P, F3HP and perhaps a future DSLR like a DF or D4.
For a new lens mount and a set of cams I found three 3-Cam Macro Adapters at B&H to select from. Funny thing is that the least expensive one was acually the one in best condition. I paid $49.99 for the Macro Adapter. The Leitax sight had enough info via photos to show me that the holes are already tapped for mounting the 3-cams. "E60" is the filter thread BTW and that is how it is most easily distinguished.

Hmmm, would love to try that on my Df in May.

John,
Couple of problems with this lens already: mucho-mucho muy expensive; converting to another mount means loosing an automatic aperture requiring either stop down manual metering or using auto exposure; only 2700 were ever made so this lens is hard to find; and if you use this on a DF you may want to sell a lot of gear to secure one.
The rendering is mucho pretty and the sharpness is brutal. The images I've seen are kinda marvels.
First problem is get the "E60" to fit on the SL2-MOT, next is a Leitax F-mount adapter. I no longer long for my Noct-Nikkor. Also know that I played a little bit with a black DF yesterday, and Maggie has been priming me for maybe needing a DSLR for Fall Fashion Week. A lot is happening on the blog front recently. Maggie just got solicited for another interview. This one is for Marie Claire (Spain edition). Designers are now contacting her. Meanwhile I'm dealing with "Overwelmed Woman Syndrome."

I have the cash, but most likely won't want to spend it on something like this.

It'll be weird to see you with a DSLR.

Took the camera for a walk, shocking positively shocking. It's the most
fun I had with a camera in a long time, the pictures with the Pentax (Asahi)
not Ricoh came out great.

I know I haven't met any of the NYC members but here's a chance right after the meet-up (which I plan on attending).
I'm holding my first solo exhibition, Without Words, in Brooklyn next month. If you visit my site, you'll get an idea of my work. My biggest influences are Kertesz and Winogrand. I really want to make it as an artist and I'm working hard to put this exhibition on.
I'd really appreciate if if anyone reading this could attend. I don't want to make it seem like I'm mooching for attention. I haven't had a chance to join the RFF community.
Anyway, the show will be on Friday, April 10 at Littlefield NYC (Gowanus/Park slope) in Brooklyn.
All the event information is below:

Hope to see some of you there!

John,
I'm actively shopping. Trying to get a DSR with "Calzone Factor." A very strong contender is a R9/DMR. This would mean that I'd also have to get a 35 Lux-R ROM.
BTW I retrofitted the 50 "E60" tho 3-cam canibilizing a 3-cam Macro adapter. Kinda scary because there were some reports of mirror/rear element interference mentioned in my data mining.
"Maggie" just sent out a response to interveiw questions and three of my Monochrom shots for yet another publication in "Marie Claire" magizine (Spanish edition).
Some high end eye glass dealer from Vancouver was in town for an eyewear convention held at the Javet's Center. Maggie met up with her Saturday and now is going to model and set up as an exclusive user. A lot of free products are now comming Maggie's way.
Fall Fashion Week NYC kinda has me excited, but also terrified. Been looking through my prints that I've made, and discovered that I'm not really so much a landscape photographer.
Errantly a few week's ago while shooting Maggie and I met Nancy Hoffman of Nancy Hoffman Gallery. I remembered when she had her gallery on West Broadway in SoHo back in the 70's.

Unfortunately the Leica S2 won't take R-lenses.
My vote would be for a visoflex III on the monochrome with a Novoflex pistol grip follow focus lens. Why bother with some second rate color sensor if you only want b+w?

Christian,
I already have B&W covered and the real need I'm anxious about is having to shoot Cull-Lar with some flair and attitude. Also backward and in a way retarded is kinda my style or lack of... My best advice to any artist: don't do what other people would do or are doing; be original.
Your idea of getting a Visoflex III to totally "Monsterize" my MM is an intriguing idea. Been looking at BEOON copy stand and Viso III to use for scanning negatives.
GEAR ALERT: A black R8 is in the mail heading to my address to try out. I am being offered a great-great deal. If I like the camera I can even make payments. My friend just wants me to have this camera. I actually prefer the R8 over the R9 because it is heavier (100 grams). Also I don't like the extra LCD frame counter on the R9 on the top plate. All I need is one frame counter. The upgraded flash capabilities of a R9 I don't think I will ever use.
I CONFIRMED THAT PUCK FAIR WILL BE OPEN ON THE 5TH OF APRIL. See you there at 1:00 PM.

A R8!? Damn Cal, would have never guessed that. Why not the Pentax 645z (calzone factor for sure)?

John,
The 50 "E60" is kinda the Swiss Army lens because I can mount it on a Nikon, Canon, or Pentax DSLR using a Leitax adapter. It is very highly regarded, and the pricing and the demand for this lens for DSLR users to adapt this special lens even with the limitation of stop-down metering is staggering. Also know that this discontinued lens is rare and only 2700 were ever made.
Right now I'm limiting myself to being Leicacentric with the SL2-MOT and black R8. BTW the "E60" would be boss on a black Nikon DF. Maggie has expressed concerns that perhaps a Leica R8/DMR is kinda crazy because, "This is not what people use to shoot fashion." Perhaps then she will buy me the black DF. I'm also thinking that I could also just rent a Nikon say D4 if we happen to get into the tent this fall. You know me: I have no problem jumping in front of others with longer lenses to get the shot. Now you and Pro-Mone got smart and started shooting with a 28 also, but now know that I still can use my 21 SEM. LOL.
It seems the rendering is a bit different than my 50 Lux ASPH. It definately has the same sharpness, but there is also this smoothness to the OOF. I think the ultra smooth but sharp rendering is partially due to it being a SLR lens and not being restricted to size like a rangefinder lens. E60 is a mucho big filter size and it seems that front lens element being supersized brings something to the rendering.
Part of my creative nature is to think about problems and trying to come up with enduring flexability by being clever. I'm thinking that getting this 50 "E60" solves more problems than it creates. Also know that I no longer have remorse about trading away my Noct-Nikkor. The SL2-MOT has a 7mm spot meter and there is even a seperate battery compartment for a light to illuminate the match needle metering to aid in night shooting.
Understand that even though Sabastion Salgado most recently used a Pentax 645 for his "Genesis" body of work, as a Leica shooter he mostly used a Leica SL2. BTW the SL2 is definately a "Monster" camera. No accessories needed. I like it because it is so basic, 1975 retro technology with a match needle metering, and of course a build quality that makes my F3P seem wimpy. "Brutal," I say.

Cal,
I would have thought the Swiss army was issued with Alpas to shoot cows and edelweiss, or whatever they needed cameras for. They may even have had Angenieux zooms, how versatile is that?

Christian,
Much respect for the Swiss. They are a clever people, but I wouldn't want to fight them.
History has shown them Swiss to be clever people, and with simple weapons (pikes), and great tactics, they defeated many a champion Knights in armour.
BTW More of my Monochrom shots of "Maggie" and her interview will be coming out in the May issue of Marie Claire" magizine (Spanish edition). This Friday I have a gig shooting some designer's Pop Up store in SoHo. Never thought I would become a fashion photographer, but a great ground swell somehow has caught me.
