Hello,
I've been scanning film for a few months now with my epson 4490. But I've noticed I have a pretty large scratch on the glass in the film scanning area. I can run my nail over it and I can feel it. It also shows on the scans although I can get rid if it in PS. I'd rather not have to do this every time. Also digital ICE doesn't really remove the scratch though it does a little to reduce it.
Does anyone have any suggestions how I may fix this?
Thanks
Chris

Replace the scanner glass with high quality float glass of the same thickness from your local glass shop. Other than high quality float glass, there isn't anything special about the glass. You do need to be careful that the distance between the glass itself and the bottom of edge frame of the scanner to which the glass is mounted doesn't change.
I have put up some diagrams that might help you with dismantling at this link:

My scanner glass has haze, and Epson told me the whole thing was vacuum sealed- and opening it meant it would never work again.
